Which Editing Software?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.
I don't post here usually, so, forgive me if you have covered this a million times.
I have a new VAIO notebook, and just firewired some video to it yesterday. Of course the files are huge. Which editing software should I get/use to be able to manipulate it and manage it? I would like to make a running clip movie of skydives. So it would be nice to be able to to keep adding to what i have, without ending up with a mega gig monster.
Thanks. J.

If you wantto keep adding on you will have to keep the fotage on the pc, or keep a spare DV tape and keep exporting it to the tape when you want to delete the files.
I use Premier 6 for my editing, it has a steep learning rurve but i like it best so far. Look at Studio 8 too.

Of course, as people have stated, Adobe Premier is one of the best. Something you might want to consider as a much less expensive (remember you *do* get what you pay for), but still functional editing title to help you learn some basics on is Ulead's offering.
Good luck. :)A human cannonball, I rise above it all

Sonic Foundry makes a great product to throw together a quick video (After capture, 5 minutes with basic transitions between jumps and music from MP3 files).
It does not have all the capabilities of Premier, but it is VERY easy to use.

Have a look at Ulead mediastudio pro6. Awesome transitions. Up to 99 Video line and 99 sound lines with 4 FX lines.
Transfers stright to Video, DV tape or even get the plugin for DVD.
The DVD option also lets you create you own Menu screen for the DVD.

If you're hurting for money, like myself and the notebook set you back enough already you can just use the movie shaker software that comes with the vaio. It definitely can't do what premier can do and if you're not using a sony camera it can be pretty frustrating importing and exporting but it is essentially free. I've had fairly good results with it so far. Just my .02
