freeflir29 0 #1 May 23, 2002 What kind of video capture card do I need. Right now I have a Pentium II 400 MHZ, 64K of RAM, and 6.12 G free space on my drive. My camera has both a USB port and I Link IEEE 1394 link. I guess the Premier 6 is the software to get after I get the card? "Here I come to save the BOOBIES!" PhreeZone 20 #2 May 23, 2002 A simple Firewire card is all thats needed. The editing software will use the card to capture the video then.If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....
indyz 1 #3 May 23, 2002 You don't need a video capture card specifically, but a Firewire card. i.Link, Firewire, and IEEE 1394 are all the same thing. The first two names are property of Sony and Apple, respectively (If I recall correctly), and the IEEE # is the international standards number. Any reasonably stocked electronics store should have Firewire cards. The ones I have installed at work (never used 'em beyond testing) were all PCI and a cinch to install. While you are at it, I would suggest picking up a second hard drive just for your video work. 6.12 gigs just ain't enough for full motion video. 60 gig drives can be had for under $100 on pricewatch.com, with shipping. Larger drives are more expensive, but the bigger the drive, the smaller the dollars:megabytes ratio.I can't comment on editing software beyond iMovie, which comes (came?) with DV iMacs.--Brian
mattb 0 #4 May 23, 2002 It's late and this is truly a nit - but 64K of RAM on a Pentium II computer? I had 64K of RAM on an Apple II.OK - I'll end this useless post now.
AndyMan 7 #5 May 23, 2002 Quote I had 64K of RAM on an Apple II.I think he meant 64M. 256 is the bare minimum if you're going to be doing any good work on windows 2000. I'd recoment 512 if you're working under XP._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

nacmacfeegle 0 #7 May 23, 2002 Okay, I'll check some specs fer ya....For the record, I've made a commercial film with a PII 266, 128 meg ram, and two 8 gig drives. It was fiddly but it worked.I would recommend an ADS Pyro card to start with.pyro cardGet one without the Premiere software, and read your PM.....If you decide you like editing and want to delve deeper, you can spend more money on better cards, but for general DZ work and just funking around this will give you some fun.Happy editing broCyaDGravity Rat # 37Remember, we can do everything right, and still get hurt.
