guest700 0 #1 May 29, 2002 I have a bite switch from paragear that I am having trouble getting to work properly. Any suggestions on wiring, I have it connected to a remote releae that came with the camera, but it only fires the camera when you first plug it in, after that, it won't fire. Any suggestions, what is the best bite switch, etc??thanks!!
hookit 0 #2 May 29, 2002 What camera do you have and what is the connection type that connects the bite switch to the remote relay? I have a Canon Rebel 2000 and a bite switch which I also bought from Paragear. I got the switch with the 3.5 mm jack so the bite switch plugs directly into the remote shutter release jack (no relay) and it works fine.Do you know any camera flyers with bite switches which you could swap out just to see if the problem persists with a different bite switch? That should at least tell you whether the problem is with the camera or the switch. You could also try your bite switch on a different camera.Good luck.-Trey
WmLauterbach 0 #3 May 29, 2002 what kind of bite switch?what kind of camera?what kind of connector?where the wires soldered?Where they soldered right? Are you sure?Try unhooking the switch, and plug in the remote cable... then rub the cable wires together and make the camera fire. Then unplug the remote, wrap the wires together, and plug the remote in... if it fires when you plug it in and then stops... it may be a bad remote cable... if it fires and wont stop the remote is prob'ly good. A little more detail on what you are working with may help....
airdrew20012001 0 #4 May 29, 2002 I think the bite switches may just suck. Both the other two videots where I shoot have had problems with that switch, one is about to dump hers. I use a tongue switch and it works great once you get the hang of it. I shot 31 pictures during a tandem from 10k on sunday. We usually use 24 shot film but when we buy in bulk they throw in some 36 shot for free. I am the only numbnuts who forgets to check.Drewfus McDoofus
guest700 0 #5 May 29, 2002 Elcheapo version: I have a cannon sureshot owl I got from skydance, It was already fitted with a thumb release and a 3.5mm jack (I think, I measured it???) The thumb release was not very conducive to skydiving because you would have to thread the cable down the sleeve of your jumpsuit etc. (unless I cut the wire in the middle and added a plug) but I really wanted to have something that was 'hands free'. The switch I bought was the long skinny one from paragear, most of the other vidiots I know use the flat round one...first clue:(I had a senior camera flyer splice the two together and it worked ok, I never could get a consistent 'bite' though so it took a few squeezes to get it to fire each time. He saudered the wires together, I think right. Anyway, when I put it all in my helmet it stopped working....so I guess I either shorted something or lost a connection when taping all the excess and jack to my helmet...or the switch gave out, maybe why it was so difficult to get it to work in the first place...Thanks in advance!!!
