AndyMan 7 #2 September 29, 2002 I don't know much about the PC9. I can say this: The 101 is a current product. The pc9 is not. The 101 represents current technology. The pc9 does not. The 101 will be covered by Sony's waranty, the PC9 may not be. The 101 is probably being sold by an authorized Sony dealer, the PC9 is probably not. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. The pc9 will be as long as itsbought from a Sony dealer. They sell things fom warehouses all the time....Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
konradptr 0 #4 September 30, 2002 The PC9 is a little older, but it isn't garbage. In fact, I would assume that there are more PC9s in use freeflying than all other brands combined... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... PhreeZone 20 #5 September 30, 2002 I'd put my money on either the PC-1 or PC-5 as being the most jumped.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
konradptr 0 #6 October 7, 2002 Out of all my freeflyer friends, I think there are 5 PC9s, one PC101, and one PC5... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
underdog 0 #7 October 8, 2002 i just bought a new pc 101, everything seems to be identical to a pc 9 except at the top were the hot shoe would attatch. i would think the biggest difference would be upgraded electronics. if you can afford it buy the newest product available, sony products hold up very well when used in the skydiving enviroment so you really don't need to wait and see if a newer model is as durable as an olderdone blue skies
konradptr 0 #8 October 8, 2002 I agree, there is nothing wrong with the PC9. It will do anyhitng and everything that you would want for the next several years, and they have proven that they hold up very well... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... blazingcannon 0 #9 October 10, 2002 I've had a 101 since june and it's now in for service- the screen sometimes wouldnt come on when you opened it- something loose in there I guess. It's gonna take like 4-6 weeks to get fixed..ugh.. : ) It takes sweet video though. Real good quality."Spread your legs and fly"

Grumpy 9 #13 October 10, 2002 I understand the main differences between the two cameras from a skydivers perspective is in the improved battery life on the PC101 and you can stream video directly to your PC through a USB cable
Deuce 1 #14 October 10, 2002 That is a big deal. I've got a 120. But having the firewire is a big deal. You can get video of you from others, and give them your video like, right now! That would do it for me. The firewire is all over the place at all the dropzones I've been to. If the 9 doesn't do the firewire, there's no contest. Casch 0 #15 October 10, 2002 Can anyone recommend a relativly inexpensive but sturdy camcorder? I can't afford $600-$800 for one right now.
PhreeZone 20 #16 October 11, 2002 Honestly... 600 won't get you a camera thats really going to last in skydiving needs for more then about a season. Digital8's are going for 600-800 still and they barely meet the needs of most camera flyers doing digital video. VHS-C is'nt worth the money. If your profile is correct... get the D licence before thinking about jumping a camera, it will save you a lot of close calls. Save up till you can get either a Digital 8 or a DV camera is my opinion if you want to share your videos.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Grumpy 9 #17 October 11, 2002 Sorry if I've caused confusion. Both cameras have firewire ports for camera to camera transfer. The difference comes when you want to transfer footage to your computer for editing. Apparently (this is according to Sony blurb) the PC9 requires a video capture card so you can firewire to the computer. The PC101 allows you to transfer using a USB cable (therefore you don't need to buy the VCCard) (or you can firewire it if you already have the VCCard) I don't know what the transfer formats or levels of quality are like. Best ask Sony about that. Cheers. Grumpy
PhreeZone 20 #18 October 11, 2002 The firewire is true digital transfer, the USB i can only get to work on my 110 for digital stills.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
konradptr 0 #19 October 11, 2002 And I would imagine that the USB transfer is slow... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
nacmacfeegle 0 #20 October 11, 2002 USB is too slow for full res video transfer, but should be ok for lo res mpeg type movies, okay for teh net, but unwatchable on TV etc. USB2 shuold be fast enough but I don't about take up from hardware people yet.... Every Sony DV cam has the ability to export full res (no quality loss) Most have the facility to import via firewire, unless you have certain Europen cameras...-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. JJohnson 0 #21 October 11, 2002 If you go online and search I'm sure you can get a PC9 for about $800. I got mine almost two years ago for about $1000 and its still running strong with no problems. They even threw in a soft case, small tripod and a better battery. The firewire card for the PC was cheap as well. As much as I'd love to have state of the art stuff, I can't justify it for the amount of video I shoot. Besides the scarvy bastards are just gonna upgrade and improve it next year, making what you buy obsolete anyway. MHO JJJJ "Call me Darth Balls"
