New remote system for Video / stills

Recommended Posts

I was on the Pier Media site earlier and they have a new remote / radio controlled device that acts as a Cam Eye and shutter release for the still camera.

It does everything the Cam Eye does, serves as a remote for the video camera on the ground (rew, FF, play, etc), trips the shutter on your still camera, and gives you a visual cue when the shutter trips so you know it did.

Looked pretty cool. Kinda pricy at $230. Wondered if anyone else had seen one or heard anything about it.

I'd love to hear from someone who's actually used one.

Looking at the remote I worry about hitting the wrong button in freefall, turning off my video camera instead of taking a still...

Or am I misunderstanding? Is the still camera feature just an indication of when you took a picture (say, with a bite switch), or is it itself a remote shutter release...?

How about the possibility of droping the system in freefall? I have a hard enough time keeping track of my sony remote to control the thing on the ground... now if I had a chance to lose it in the air/plane/landing/ect.. there is no way I could keep it for more then 2 weekends :S

Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

it's the CamRL and actually it's very cool - I have used it and am in the process of converting my setup to it full time.

The camera trip switch can be wired separately and you can protect the switch for the video so its not bumped.

Advantage I found is that *every* time you trigger the still camera an LED indicator flashes so you KNOW you got the shot.

It offers the identical features of a Cam Eye II which I used until now. I like the new toy (okay - not so new, but this is the first time I got a chance to set it up)

Also - if you have any remote mounted cameras on an aircraft this is ideal for triggering them.
