konradptr 0 #1 October 27, 2002 I have given up on Premiere, since it appears that it will be a pain to make it export, which is the whole point, with my new Dell laptop and some goofy chipset. I was thinking about Avid, but it seems like it is going to be a hard program to learn. I don't want to do anything fancy, just capture my videos, and clip them into little projects that I can set to music, etc... I'm curious what everyone else uses, and if Avid is as hard to learn as it seems..? ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... konradptr 0 #5 October 27, 2002 I'm looking at the Pinnacle Studio series, hopefully that will work out. I like Premiere a lot, but this whole thing about not being able to export it just sucks... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... mountainman 0 #6 October 27, 2002 I use Premiere 6.5 right now for import/editing/export purposes. Do you have an error message or somthing that does not allow you to export? If so, tell me the options you use to export it. Have you ever used the program to export on other computers? I'll try to help. http://www.brandonandlaura.com
chachi 0 #7 October 28, 2002 I use a Maxtor 1394 capture card and Premiere 6.5 for editing. I am using a 1GIG Athlon Machine with 512mb DDR Ram and a 80 gig 7200rpm 8mb cache HD with Windows 2000 Pro and having no problems. ~
konradptr 0 #8 October 28, 2002 Well, I just got a new Dell Inspiron 8200, P4/1.7G, 256mb/40GbHD/WinXP/etc. The firewire card is built in, and I don't have any problems with the capture of video, and I have little gremlins in there with Premiere 6.0/6.5. Sometimes is just stops at a certain frame in my finished video, and moves in slow motion. (1 frame/5 secs...) But on exporting to tape, teh problem is that every 45 secs or so, it just throws a gray block in for about a sec, or just freeze frames it. I guess Cahones knows about this, and it seems to be a known problem, but everyone just keeps pointing a finger at each other, as far as software/hardware/etc... Sucks, and I think I am going to try Studio 8 to see if I can get something done.... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... Cajones 0 #10 October 28, 2002 Yes, this is a common symptom of the 845 chipset. No one seems to know why. Another one that will pop us is sudden speed changes when using the preview window. My laptop does it, and I have to reboot to get it to go away. Speculation points at the chipset because it does have some variation. You can try going into your BIOS settings (if you don't know how to do this, you may not want to mess with it, anyhow - get a nerdy friend to help) and see if your computer has the ability to give certain functions and/or PCI slots priority. It fixed the "gray box" on export to tape issues with my old Pinnacle DV500 card. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
Cajones 0 #11 October 28, 2002 It's a bit of a shame, really. That's a fairly good computer for edits. It sounds like it's time to move up to miniDV, so you can use those firewire ports. wlie 0 #12 October 28, 2002 I'd love a Sony PC-???, or an Elura, or one of them tall and slim JVCs, but the wife'll kill me if I went out and bought one. I've heard that Video8 Handycams are ok as long as I have a jacket over it because the wind will make the tape flutter otherwise. I wouldn't say just the quality or having 1394. I've see some of the instant feedback on color LCD and I feel as if I had tripped the flux passitor on my '92 Escort My other ride is the relative wind. PhreeZone 20 #13 October 28, 2002 Are you actively jumping the Video8 HandyCam or are you planing on it? wlie 0 #14 October 29, 2002 I'm in the planning stage right now. Still doing alot of research. Most importantly, still improving on the freefall skills. I've read lots of posts suggesting that I should be able to fly instinctively and be at ease when dealing with emergencies. Lots of people more or less suggesting the same thing can't be wrong. Can't be unsafe if I want to show y'all my footage right? The closest image I could find of my Video8 camera looks like thisMy other ride is the relative wind. Craig 0 #20 October 30, 2002 I have recently got ahold of Studio Version 7 (need to find 8) but it works great. I am using it on a Sony laptop, running XP with an 1Gig. Mobile AMD Athlon and 256 MB of memory. Import and export was easy as well as the actual editing. I ran into one problem with a jittery slow-mo, but I think that was caused by a setting on my system or something and haven't gone back to troubleshoot since(have only edited down and rendered back to DV once so far). I know people that are using less powerful machines and are having no problems, so the program seems flexible as far as speed and resources go.
murrays 0 #21 November 18, 2002 I use an iMac to edit video. If you are using anything digital with a Firewire/DV Out jack it will import directly. iMovie2 is easy to use with plugins available and Quicktime Pro ($29.95 US) enables a lot of other capabilities. I bought my first iMac three years ago expressly to edit digital video of my kids. It worked flawlessly from the outset and never gave me a minute's grief. I just bought a new flatpanel iMac with a Superdrive in it and think it is great value for the money. Take a look at a Mac...they all have Firewire ports and iMovie2 and are ready to edit video out of the box. If you want highend editing capabilities, the Final Cut Pro software is very well regarded....but expensive. I use Macs and PCs daily at work and home and find the macs to be less trouble and more fun. konradptr 0 #24 November 18, 2002 Yea, it was with the system... I put this post on one of the other topics... Re: [kevin922] Anyone have problems with Premiere??? [In reply to] Quote | Reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So it appears that after all the frustration and help offered, the problem is that Dell computers SUCK!!! The computer I am on is the third warranty replacement, after 4 replacement hard drives, a replacement monitor, a replacement motherboard, a replacement CD-R, and about 15 times of reformatting and reinstalling Windows. This computer works, which I think is just by chance, but it works... Thanks to all that gave me suggestions and advice, but in my case, it is just that Dell sucks so bad that I cannot begin to put into words how much they suck.... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
