I am getting a dv camcorder for Skydiving am looking at both the Sony microMV IP7 and the Sony miniDV pc-101. I am leaning toward the pc-101.

Any imput on either, or any other type or brand of camera for helmet mounting?

Thank you in advance,
BJ

Sony microMV IP7

Do a search in the Photography forum, the guys there have discussed the pros/cons of this camera more then once and they really know their stuff.

As a summary, there are no pro's, except for the size of the camera...

Ok here is some Pro's and Con's for you to think about.

The Micro Mv isn't a real friendly skydive camera from what I have seen. The record control is on the right side of the camera, instead of the back, like most of the other sony camera's. And most camera brackets, and helmet's, are made for a left mounted camera, so turning it on and pressing record will be difficult. If you wanted to top mount it, then you wouldn't have a problem. Also It doesn't have a LANC port so the CameyeII wont work with it. This might not be a problem if your only using it for fun jump's, but for 4way, and Tandems its a good idea to have an indicator light, and the cameye is the best one out there. The tapes for the MV are also real expensive. Pro: The Micro mv is a very small and lightweight camera. The Pc 101 is a very good camera. It is set up like most skydive camera's used today. So helmet's and bracket's will match up nicely. I suggest you look at the camera's first personally. Check out your options. Good luck

Out of those two - the 101. The IP series records in MPEG (the IP7's image is noticeably lower quality), doesn't have a firewire port (eventually you will want to share footage with other skydivers), and is difficult to operate with standard mounts.

The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
