OmriMon 0 #1 November 5, 2002 i just mounted my canon eos on my bonehead optik and was wondering whats the best way to route the shutter relaese switch and have as less cable on the outside of the helmet as possible
wlie 0 #2 November 5, 2002 Most of the setups I've seen have the cable gaffer-taped along the edge of the helmet all the way down. I've thought of drilling a hole to pass the cable through and have it snug between the shell and padding, but drilling holes on an expensive setup makes me cringe. My other ride is the relative wind. Zlew 0 #3 November 5, 2002 not sure aboubt the optic, but on the BatRac's it's easy to drill a hole in the top (doesn't have to be big enough for the switch to pass through if you know how to splice it back...ez..). I have mine go in the top, and out by the jaw line (have a keeper there when not shooting stills). Easy to do, and almost nothing exposed. Does the liner come out of the optic? I assume so, but have not seen one yet. Z
OmriMon 0 #4 November 5, 2002 i thought about doin that but i'll have to drill a pretty big hole to fir the end of the cable

skyboyblue 0 #6 November 5, 2002 assuming you have a pc model camera mounted as well, that could be used a cover up for a hole for the cable. use some ingenuity and route the cable threw a hole or make another one behind whatever mount you have. then you'd only need to tape down a small portion of the cable(that is if a clean look is what you are going for) I have a half rack with rebel 2000 on top, I have a small hole under the flat top for its cable. my cam-eye is mounted flush in the fin and the cable is routed through the l bracket so only the plug is exposed. except for a couple of inches under the flat top i don't have any wires exposed
XDV 0 #7 November 5, 2002 I set my Optik with every wire inside (tongue switch and cameye) For the tongue switch I drill behind the still camera in the forehead and the wire get out of the helmet on the right side just at the beginning of the form for the dytter, same for the cameye drill through the D-box and the optik and the wire get out just under the articulated right sight mount. I put grommet on each hole I made to get a cleaner look and also that prevent the wire to get cut by the side of the hole. jump safe

XDV 0 #9 November 6, 2002 I made those quick picture to give you an idea of what I did on my optik, I bought the grommet at Radio Shack, 15 for 1$
OmriMon 0 #10 November 6, 2002 did u have to cut the cable to get it in the helmet?
XDV 0 #11 November 6, 2002 Infortunatly....yes, put I try to make it very clean when I join back the wire, I use soldering and also very small shrink tube for aeck wire and a bigger oneto make a sleeve over them
KawiZX900 0 #12 November 6, 2002 get a dremmel multi pro and drill it... i'm doing a little R&D on this too as i have the optik as well, not going to do anything to it yet, but have been talking with people about perhaps placing a piece of rubber on the cameras ass to keep it from slipping , the nut they provide makes me leary... i'm thinking about hooking up a quick realease system on the top, but i don't know if that'll hold up in freefly stress, and i plan to dig up the dirt on that idea as well.... blah blah blah,, yadda yadda yadda..... Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. XDV 0 #13 November 6, 2002 For the quick release from Velbon 635 they hold very well even with the stress of the speed of head down,
