Cajones 0 #4 November 6, 2002 They are very similar in features for the average user. Image stabilization (with a motion tracker) and precise color control are the big things that Avid does. The Avid program has some plug-ins not available for Premiere. Premiere, likewise has a few plug-ins that don't work with Avid. The Avid product is used on SGI systems and other high-end powerhouses that Premiere doesn't work on. The Avid product is more $$$. Premiere is "buggy" on many systems. And there's a few more things I can't pop off the top... Are you considering buying a $1500 program ($2500 if you want the Powerpack) to experiment with? The laws of physics are strictly enforced. newshooter12 0 #5 November 6, 2002 I've worked with Avid in a couple different forms. I can say that I walk away with a smile on my face most of the time. A friend that I do some side work with has an Avid Express DV 3.5 system put together by ProMax similar to THIS. We've been working on a monthly 30-min show for about 3 months now and it has been working out really well. There are a few quirks, but they can easily be worked with. DV.com had a review in last months' magazine that IMHO is pretty much right on target. You'll find it HERE. I've played around with Premiere on a couple different systems, but end up frustrated by it in the end. Avid seems more intuitive to me. I learned how to edit linear at a TV news station so speed and reliability are important to me. Just my $.02, but hope it helps. PM or e-mail me if you want to know more or have any questions. matt

prost 0 #12 November 7, 2002 There is another option now that you might not now about. It is called Pinnacle Edition. Pinnacle bought it from a German company where it was known as FastDV. They have integrated many of the programs into it and released it under the name Edition. It is also the software version of their high end stand alone video editors. The program is rock solid and offers a few interesting features like auto save and background rendering. It saves automatically several times a second. If you pull the plug on the computer in the middle of a project when you open it back up every thing will be where you left it. I am buying a copy with a real time editing board. You should check it out before buy anything else.
