mountainman 0 #1 November 12, 2002 Just curious where all of you buy your camera helmets and accessories. I would like to start poking around some sites and things like that. Thanks. http://www.brandonandlaura.com
TheMonkey 0 #2 November 12, 2002 http://www.square1.com http://www.pierltd.com http://www.aerostore.com http://www.paraequip.com and there are many others, but be sure to price shop all of them....anything you don't see on the aerostore site i would call about, they can get most anything and they are usually a few bucks cheaper than the others --------------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! wlie 0 #4 November 12, 2002 I tend to buy used as I'm new to the sport, and the prices of the items I buy drop faster than Wiederkehr. So looking on eBay, DZ.com's classifieds, or just look all over the internet. The only items I've purchased new are my Altimaster III and Pro Dytter, both from Aerostore. And Paragear for hard to find, or no time to find items. As for photography, I go to bhphotovideo.com. I would recommend to anyone going to buy from them to really know what they want. B&H is not the place to get suggessions ++. Then again, I still scout their used dept. first.I also go to local pawn shops. It's amazing what you can find there. My other ride is the relative wind. Deuce 1 #6 November 12, 2002 I get as much stuff as practical from my local gear store owner, Bonnie of Gravity Gear. I get new and used stuff from B&H, they may be a little more expensive, but they don't screw around with you like many of those Atlantic state mail order houses. I've also used Paragear and Sunshine Factory. Sunshine Factory is real nice to do business with. I'd like to get some stuff from Lisa at Square One, just to talk with herCheck this used helmet out. This is like mine, but this one has a bonehead ratchet chincup, it looks like: http://www.sunshine-factory.com/cgi-bin/data/db.cgi?db=sf&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=7688
AndyMan 7 #7 November 12, 2002 Big hardware I buy from Dbuys - www.dbuys.com Small hardware i buy from BH - www.bhphotovideo.com Helmet and mounting gear I buy straight from Skydance, the manufacturer of the one I'm using now - www.pia.com/skydance The stuff they make themselves is cheap and good, the stuff they resell is overpriced. Everything else, general skydiving gear and skydiving specific video gear (like a cat-eye) I'll buy from my local DZ if the prices are compeditive, otherwise Square 1. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. konradptr 0 #8 November 13, 2002 Yea, Brandon, as I'm sure you've figured out that a lot of those East Coast places out in NY, NJ, etc, are scheisters, and they sell a lot of gray market, no warranty, the included battery/memstick/etc is extra. And if you just want a setup, like you would get at Best Buy, and nothing else, they aren't willing to sell the camera to you. So beware all out there about these places.... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
AndyMan 7 #9 November 13, 2002 QuoteYea, Brandon, as I'm sure you've figured out that a lot of those East Coast places out in NY, NJ, etc, are scheisters, and they sell a lot of gray market, no warranty, the included battery/memstick/etc is extra. That said, both the places I mentioned, bhphotovideo.com and dbuys.com are NOT like this. They've both got great compeditive prices, sell new in box, in original packaging products, that ARE covered by warantys, and come with all the proper accesories. They also both offer good customer service at an outstanding price. When I ordered my PC120 online at 6:00pm eastern time, I was awoken by a fed-ex guy at 8:00am central time the very next morning my gear. That was cool. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. mountainman 0 #10 November 13, 2002 Thank you guys for ALL the input! There are some cool sites there that I've never seen before. I actually bought our PC120 from Dbuys. They are great and fast. Also, they are not pressure sellers when they call to confirm. You tell them that you have all you need, they don't say anything else. I bought the extra stuff (filters, wide angle lens, extra battery) from B&H. They had a GREAT price on the Kenko .5 lens ($25). Then, I bought my Sony Premium DV tapes (60 min) and 128MB Sony Memory Stick from a place called Ecost.com. Stuff was VERY cheap and they got stuff shipped very fast and I had no problems. Check them out...they have different specials all the time. You just really need to look hard to find some stuff. The place that I used to research prices and such is here: http://pcworld.pricegrabber.com. It works pretty much like PriceWatch but is much better with info and places that are reliable. Good luck to all and thanks again for all the links guys. If you know or find anymore, please post it here. Thanks! http://www.brandonandlaura.com
cameramonkey 0 #11 November 21, 2002 I echo the sentiments on taperesources.com. Great pricing on quantity and DV with chips. without chips they have pretty much the same pricing as wal mart (after shipping). Just be careful. Flying a camera is tricky stuff, and adds ALOT more danger to the sport. As I am sure you will hear from others, Raw jump numbers alone doesnt make you qualified to jump a camera. I know you have a few jumps under your belt (possibly more than I do now) but your time in sport is relatively short. I started early, and got ALOT of odd, as well as the "you are gonna kill yourself" looks. Quite a few didnt want to be in the air with me at first. But with careful mentoring, lots of practice, and alot of luck I was able to do it safely. When in doubt, ask another vidiot at the DZ, and keep your brain open to suggestions from others around you. They sometimes know more than you do about your skills. blue skies and soft openings! Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
mountainman 0 #12 November 25, 2002 Hey man - just to reaffirm that I am not jumping with it now. I am just getting more resources and info for when the time comes. I have the camera and some accessories that I use for "ground" footage now. http://www.brandonandlaura.com
