freefalle 0 #1 January 14, 2003 ok the helmet is a hawkeye the video camera is a pc100 mounted on the left side of the helmet the cam eye is installed (pretty damn proud of the job too) the ring site is on its way (brent findley cross hair) the still camera is going to be a cannon Rebel. all that being said forgive me for my ignorance and help me. How do I install the ring site so that Im shooting a frame without cutting anybody out. who makes a mount for the cannon I'm obviously planning on mounting it to the top of the helmet. how do I mount the cannon so that what im looking at in the ring site is what is in the frame of the video camera as well as the still? Im sure these questions might be stupid but Id figure Id ask before I go poking holes in my helmet and screwing it up Ive always gotten good advise here, thanks in advance
PhreeZone 20 #2 January 14, 2003 Whats the rush to jump stills? Learn how to use the ring sight first, then use the video for feedback to see how things are lining up. Get really good at the video before straping on stills... just imho.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

As to mounting your site, I like the articulated site mount that pier ltd sell's. It allow's you to move your site out of your vision. So you dont have it in front of your face under canopy. And I believe that hawkeye has mark's on it for mounting that site. When you do site your ringsite in, you will need some help, and I like to zoom my camera in so you get a better look at exactly where the center is. Look at something and have your helper look through your camera, move your site until both of you are loking at the same thing. Oh yeah you should place your site about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch away from your face. Also when you drill through your helmet, you will need to coat the hole's with clear nail polish after, carbon fiber is real bad on electronic's (The military has bombs filled with carbon fiber they use to destroy enemy electronic's) There is many way's to mount your still camera, I use industreal velcro and a mounting screw, Norman Kent mentioned how he didn't like my quick release, as It was a potential line snag point, but then again so is a ringsite. The velcro holds my camera straight, and the screw holds the camera to my helmet, but Im sure someone will mention a better way to mount your still camera. Once you have your camera mounted and your site installed, a great way to get used to your set up, is to put your camera on at home and record stuff, look at the tv and the Fan and the Door ect, and record it where you think center is, then look at the tape and see what you really were looking at. Its a little hard to center thing's when you have to look up. Most people use their eyes too much in the beginning, but with a little practice youll do fine. Hope this help's. Oh yeah be prepared to burn a lot of film when you first start shooting still's. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
