capture card

ok I got a sweet wife who got me a nice new computer (2.53 pent 4)with a dvd burner. I have a tv out on my videocard. Now I want to change all my tapes of skydives to DVD. What capture card would you get and why? Keep in mind I'm not doing this everyday but would nice clean video and add music to the video. Help

If you're using Windows XP (SP1 preferably) then I wouldn't bother. Just get a decent soundcard with a firewire port in it and plug your cam into that. I use Adobe Premiere to grab video, TMPGENC to render DVD compliant MPEG2 stream, something or other (i forget :S) to generate compressed Dolby AC3 sound (good quality and nice and small), and Sonic ReelDVD to master the DVD.

Nice wife, can I borrow her sometime :P

First of all, here is a link to a search of this forum with "capture card": HERE

I would say get something that is pretty basic and you aren't paying a lot for a name and/or useless software (unless you'll use it).

Here is what I got and I am VERY happy with it: FireConnect 4300. It has 3 plugs and I have had no hardware/software issues with it and my PC120 or with my parents' JVC miniDV.
