camera flying and x-braced canopies

Recommended Posts

I love my velocity. And it always opens on all of the headings. But that aside. Once you get used to the openings it is a great canopy. I have never had a softer opening. The best thing I have found for long spots is to open sooner. But a littel rear riser goes a long way.

Some one must go to the edge for others to be able to find it. But if you go be sure you can make it back.

I've seen lots of cameraflyers jumping x-braced... FX, VX, Velocity... My personal choice is the Velocity... It gets back well, and generally opens on heading...

So have I, but they're usually the more experienced camera flyers that jump full time or nearly so.

What about a recommendation for a guy just starting out in camera flying?

if he flies x-braced,he should be pro enouf..
If hi want to start in camera at the same time as he want a x-braced,then he should wait whit the cannopi..

I personal jump a Crossfire99(yes i know it aint a x-braced),and have never had any problems. How ever i wouldnt jump it whit out a cut at the helmet.

It all depends on their skill set and experiance level... Spectre, Crossfire, Sabre2 come to mind... Whatever canopy, it should be well within ones abilities before using it for camera work...

I have tried a few x-braced canopies. Loads of fun. The swoop power of the Velocity was enough to make me giggle on landing. I chose not to go coss-braced because of the "rougue openings" - I never knew how it would open. Pucker factor on opening is already there, sometimes, with a camera on my head. Rolling over, low, after watching a tandem open (or whatever), and pitching in less than ideal body position amplifies this unpredictability factor. I lost a Stilleto 150 because of this sort of scenario. I had seven jumps on it. I now jump a Samurai 150 (loaded 1.7). Consistent openings, forgiving, easy on the neck bones, very long glide (opening low can also hose you on the spot), and still plenty of fun. For me - the ideal balance of fun/performance and function.
