brucewayne 0 #1 February 4, 2003 I am having a problem getting my pc9 to send and recieve images to my pc and other cameras. Thought maybe someone else who has the 9 might know the trick to get this to work or if my camera is just broke.
PhreeZone 20 #2 February 4, 2003 What is it doing if anything? The firewire port is fairly sensitive to pressure (I broke the one in my PC110). Do you use a cam eye or anything else?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
brucewayne 0 #3 February 4, 2003 Yes I use a cam eye but the port is in a different place on the camera. When I attach the firewire the "line in" pops up on the screen for a moment when I go to the pc, but the pc won't recognize the camera is there. I have tried another camera and it worked fine. Also when I am in the 'Edit set " mode on the camera it says NOT READY and to check "i-link" & rec status. So apparently it knows the fire wire is pluged in which leads me to believe that I have the seetings wrong and the manual is no help at all.
cameramonkey 0 #4 February 5, 2003 just my .02, but my pc5 shows "DV-IN" on the LCD when it is connected to the PC properly. Have you checked your PC's device manager to see if it is even detecting the cam, or if a yellow question mark appears when the cam gets plugged in? the latter indicates that the system sees it but isnt quite sure what it is.Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO! brucewayne 0 #5 February 5, 2003 yes the dv-in does appear for a few seconds when I plug the fire wire in. I have tried another camera on the pc and it seemed to work fine, the software recognized that there was a device right away.

PhreeZone 20 #7 February 5, 2003 Sounds a lot like my 110 when it broke. It was a cracked circuit board that would form connectiosn and lose them.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
BoobieCootie 0 #8 February 5, 2003 Funny I'm having the same problem with my PC5. I'm connecting to my eMac using a 4pin to 6pin cable similar to this one from Sony. iMovie says the camera is not connected.Any ideas?
brucewayne 0 #9 February 5, 2003 great, always nice to have company on a sinking ship. Do you have any problems firing to other cameras?

BoobieCootie 0 #11 February 6, 2003 Just a PC5 that I have.I do have a Formac Studio DV. Connecting an old CCD-TR71 thru it and getting a picture in iMovie is no problem. No problem getting a picture from the PC5 if I connect it thru the Studio DV. It's connecting the PC5 directly via 1394 that I'm still havin problems. murrays 0 #12 February 6, 2003 Have you tried changing the firewire cable? Let's see...list of possible things that aren't working...1 - Cable2 - PC-53 - eMacNo buddies around that could come over with their cameras and cables? I'd say if another camera and another cable won't allow the connection to be made then the problem lies with the computer. failing that...you just ain't holding your tongue just right -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
BoobieCootie 0 #13 February 6, 2003 I have a feeling it's the cable. At least I hopeIt even says so on iMovie's Help that the 4-pin connector is extrememly fragile
brucewayne 0 #14 March 3, 2003 well I got in touch with the sony tech on the phone and went over the entire problem and ended up sending it back for repair. But thanks for all the help guys. I love the camera though! Great functions and for the thirty or so times I have flown with it I have some great video.
BoobieCootie 0 #15 March 4, 2003 In my case, it sure turned out to be the cable. I went back to Kenmore Camera and exchanged the 4pin to 6pin 1394 cable and everything is just jivin'BTW, they sell them cables very inexpensive. $19.95 SCORE!!! I've been able to import clips into iMovie so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to shoot clips to other cameras as well. I haven't tried exporting or recording video back to the camera using the 1394 but I'm confident that it'll work because it says "DV IN" on the flip screenNow if I could just hold still and shoot some video... brucewayne 0 #16 March 17, 2003 I don't know what the hell is wrong with this thing. I sent it it back for repair and they said nothing was wrong with it. Screww the fire wire I can live without it. I will borrow someones camera if I want to play with the pinnacle 8. I have just put too much time and effort into fixing this problem and nothing has changed. Not worth it to me anymore. freeflyguy 0 #17 March 22, 2003 How have you tested it? Maybe it would fire into my notebook. Bring it when you show up out there. ---------------------------- bzzzz
