chachi 0 #3 February 24, 2003 Ok so I install a SCSI card into my 200 Pro machine and look in the Device manager and it says it is working properly so I attach and power on the slide scanner and when it comes to the desktop it sees the scanner and I proceded to follow the 200 Pro instructions for installing the scanner and then I launch the .exe file for the drivers and it gets about 95% throuhgh it and say ensure your scsi device is working properly and then says cant find scsi device. It finishes drivers though and program and I go into program and it says it cant find scanner. THis is a self terminating SCSI device so that isnt the problem . Any ideas? ~Chachi
skeletor 0 #4 February 24, 2003 you may need to have the device plugged and powered when you bring the machine up, depending on the SCSI adapter. Other than that, when you plug in the device and the machine is already up, can you go into device manager and do a 'scan for hardware changes' on the SCSI device. I'm assuming the device ID is set correctly on the scanner. rich.
chachi 0 #5 February 24, 2003 The device is actually been powered up when the machine is on. It detects and even goes throught he hardware wizard. Device ID is set yes. I will try when I get home to scan for hardware changes. Actually I forgot to mention 2 things. First when I go into the SCSI properties at boot up it recognizes devise , second it says BIOS NOt Installed !! right after it shows SCSI Card at boot up. ~Chachi
chachi 0 #6 February 24, 2003 Well I called Canon to try to deal with it. Apparantly when using an Adaptec SCSI card that didnt come with the scanner you need to download a driver called aspi32 that allows the card and the unit to talk to each other. Apparantly a fairly common problem. Thanks for the help. ~Chachi
AndyMan 7 #7 February 24, 2003 I've been having the same kinda day. After spending 3 hours trying to get Oracle 8i to install on my laptop, I started looking for bug reports.... Oracle 8i won't install on a Pentium 4 based system. Too funny! LOL Now I'm downloading 9i. The boss is thrilled that he gets to buy me an upgrade... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. First when I go into the SCSI properties at boot up it recognizes devise , second it says BIOS NOt Installed !! right after it shows SCSI Card at boot up. It is normal for your card to say "SCSI BIOS NOT INSTALLED". It's doing that because there are no bootable devices on the chain. Now, as to your problem, SCSI buses require both ends of the chain to be terminated. Your SCSI card is terminating one end, you need to have termination after your Canon. Look on the device and see if there is a switch for termination. Make sure it is enabled. If there is not one, you need to have an active terminator plugged into the other SCSI connector on the device (there should be two which allows pass-through). You can pickup a terminator from CompUSA for a few bucks. Now, your Canon cannot be set for ID7. You can set it to any ID you want except for 7 as that is reserved for the SCSI adapter. Go into the BIOS for your SCSI adapter. If it's an Adaptec, hit "CTRL-A" when you see the Adaptec banner show up on the screen. Make sure the card is set to use ID7 and that active/automatic termination is enabled. If you have any other questions, let me know.
