AdamA 0 #1 February 24, 2003 Hi I'm looking for a camrecorder for the use of skydiving-freefall photography. I'm a beginner (20 jumps - A license ). I would be happy to get an information & tips about models of cam's that can be attached to the side of the helmet. not the most expensive (I'm short on greens) thanks, and have a grate week
quade 4 #2 February 24, 2003 Hi Adam -- Generally speaking we suggest people have a few more jumps before making camera jumps. I usually tell people to have at least 200 jumps and that's a number that gets tossed around by a number of other folks as well -- mandatory on some parts of the planet. Anyway, if you want to start looking at cameras now, that's fine, but by the time you really have enough experience to begin the models may change quite a bit so doing a lot of research right now may be kind of a waste of time.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
PhreeZone 20 #3 February 24, 2003 First off... you really need about another 180 jumps before you start to play around with video. There is a lot you need to learn about flying your body before you add a huge snag hazard on then hope to get good video. Flying should come with out thinking. You should know where to be and when to get the shot before you ever jump a camera. You should'nt need to think "I need to slide to the left a few feet" it should be automatic. Master landings too. I've heard of a camera being trashed since the jumper never learned to land properly and busted it up nice on a crashed landing. 200 jumps is the min I'll recommend anyone play with cameras at. There is just so much that can go wrong with them and they complicate the skydive so much that a low timer or uncurrent jumper can frequently get overloaded. I wish I had waited till I was a better flyer before camera flying. I spent $2000 on my camera so far. Don't think that its cheap to just run out buy the cheapest camera around toss it on then jump. Sony Mini DV are about it for freefall. Even used and old your looking at $500-700, another 75-200 for the mount then the helmet cost.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
jdhill 0 #4 February 24, 2003 I agree with the other guys, you need to get some more time in the air before putting a camera on your head... you need to be comfortable with everything from packing to landing off, and everything in between, before adding a line catcher to your mix... cameras are changing faster than ever, so what is available now will be "old" in six months. AndyMan 7 #5 February 24, 2003 I've gotten in trouble here before, because I won't even answer your question until you've got a whole lot more jumps. At 20 jumps, you shouldn't even be considering a camera. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
