dsbbreck 0 #1 March 18, 2003 Looking to buy a new camera. I know when micromv cameras came out the video quality was not as good as DV. This new MicroMV supposedly has the same pixels quality as a PC101. ( Sony - DCR-IP55 MicroMV Digital Camcorder ) Still doesn't have a LANC jack and still isn't compatible with other DV cameras with the firewire, as far as I know. Does anyone out there have one of these and is there any other problems with this as far as using it for skydiving goes? And how much are the MV tapes?David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
newshooter12 0 #2 March 19, 2003 I looked at the tape prices back a while... MV @ $12-15 each... MiniDV @ $4-7 each. at Circuit City in individual or small packs (60 minutes SP). I'm sure the rest of the people here will chime in with answers to the rest of your questions.matt
dsbbreck 0 #3 March 20, 2003 I found them online for $9.49 each or $9.39 if you buy 100 or more.David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
newshooter12 0 #4 March 20, 2003 If the cameras had Firewire and Lanc (Control-L) capabilities compatible or comparable with the MiniDV cameras I'd take a more serious look at them. But I still think they're just a stepping stone to another level of video technology. matt
meduus 0 #5 March 20, 2003 The Quality of MicroMV is the same only if yo look at the numbers ( 1Mpixel CCD, 520 horiz. lines etc), but remember that MicroMV is a MPEG-2 packed format and any compression means quality loss. I haven't tested the IP55 myself, but I know a lot about video formats and editing and MPEG-2 will reveal a certain amount of blockiness, especially on larger darker areas of the frame.
