ColdDuck 0 #1 April 2, 2003 Has anyone had any experiences with this type of helmet? I am looking at buying it but I have never heard of it. It is called a Bonehead Full box Thanks "Insurance should called In case shit happens, if shit don't happen shouldn't I get my money back?" bone.bmp

imdskydiver 0 #4 April 2, 2003 Maybe you heard it wrong , It could be a Flat top pro, or a bat-rak , "full rak or 1/2 rak"
ColdDuck 0 #5 April 2, 2003 No, I have talked to the people at Bonehead. They told that it was a helemt that they would have special made for someone. But with the wide range of cameras out there now they don't anymore. From what I understand the only difference is that this helmet has a space on top for a specific camera instead of a flat plate. Othere wise it looks just like a Flat Top Pro. "Insurance should called In case shit happens, if shit don't happen shouldn't I get my money back?" quade 4 #6 April 2, 2003 I would recommend -against- the purchase of this helmet just for that fact alone. It was a custom built one-off and probably won't fit whatever camera you want to put in there. Not nicely anyway. It also probably doesn't have the new Bonehead cutaway system.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
ColdDuck 0 #7 April 2, 2003 I do have the same camera as this person. Otherwise I would not even consider it. But the cutaway thing is a good point though. Canuck 0 #8 April 2, 2003 There is another dude with one of these on page 20 of March's Parachutist - much taller than a regular flat top pro. Canuck

Also it would suck if something happened to the camera and it was replaced with a newer model, forcing you to start from scratch as opposed to swapping out a d-box and still having most of the camera stuff still set up. -- Hook high, flare on time

miller 0 #11 April 3, 2003 First, these helmets aren't much taller than a normal flat top pro with a d-box, it just looks like it because of the big flat space on the side. (Look where the back of the helmet flares out) Second, if I'm not mistaken, the camera actually sets on a plate which is in the exact same location as the plate on a normal flat top, and you can use a combination of padded shims on the top of the contraption, so that when it closes, it holds the camera all nice and secure. A friend of mine has one of these with an old hi-8 sony, which fits fine. Therefore, any of today's digital trv-series cameras would be okay. It just might need a little work to get it to close/secure properly. If you buy it, you can get a new "thermo-fit" liner from bonehead, bake it, and it should be good to go. my two cents Mike
riggerrob 643 #12 April 5, 2003 Wow! Talk about short memories! The full-box is the first model of camera helmet that Bonehead built when Chris and Larry first opened shop. Their Full Box was so much better than anything else on the market, that it got their foot in the door of the fiercely competitive helmet market. Hint, I worked with Chris and Larry before they started building helmets. The helmet portion - of the Full Box - is the same as their Flat Top. The difference is in the composite box that protects the camera. Remember back in the mid 1990s when 8mm and Hi8 were the best quality video cameras? Do you also remember that those cameras were extremely sensitive to wind and vibration and dust? Do you remember how sensitive those cameras were to whacking on door frames, etc? Do you remember how many cameramen wrapped crude aluminum boxes around their Hi8 cameras to protect them? Do you remember when the late Greg Hunter came out with the first full face, boxed camera helmets? It is an optical illusion, but Bonehead's Full Box is actually one of the smaller boxed helmets on the market. The base of the camera is only a half inch from your skull. Bonehead's Full Box is probably passe' because Hi8 cameras have fallen out of fashion, but in its day, the Full Box was head and shoulders better than any other camera helmet. vdschoor 0 #13 June 19, 2003 Hi there, I bought this helmet, and I am jumping it right now. I have a TRV17 in there. I know people have looked at it a bit strange, but he, it works, and it works very well! The helmet does look big, but I compared it to a brand new flat top with a similar size camera on top, and the helmet is only about 1 inch higher than the normal, brand new FTP. I am getting the new quick release system for it though, since it does not come off quick enough. Iwan
