kallend 2,106 #26 June 18, 2003 QuoteJust go with the web man... I know all i'd really want was to look at a bunch and possibly pick up one or two of the ones I like if I ever jumped with you. So why would I waste your time editing and burning a disc for me to look at? Hey if they're good friends they'll probably understand it's cheaper and easier for both you as well as them to do it that way on shutterfly. That's one of the downsides of being a Photog, Every piece of equipment costs a good amount of dough and you need to reclaim the cost somehow... sounds like you're open to people paying you in other ways, but don't let them take advantage of you too much. matt My rig cost a good amount of dough. Should I charge my fellow jumpers to jump with me so that I can recoup the cost? I guess I just don't understand why amateur camera fliers feel that they deserve to be paid by other skydivers.... LouDiamond 1 #27 June 18, 2003 QuoteI guess I just don't understand why amateur camera fliers feel that they deserve to be paid by other skydivers. So what constitues a professional? Is there a governing body that hands out certificates saying your a pro camera flyer? If you fly a camera for the purpose of capturing that event on film and selling it then you should be compensated, be it a paid slot or slot plus whatever $ you agree on, thats a whole other issue. If you shoot for a 4 way team then it's a pretty safe bet that your a decent camera flyer producing a product. Why shouldn't you be compensated? The same can be said for the camera man who flies with a group of fun jumpers and takes pictures and offers to sell them prints. Bottom line, if your a camera man and you take pictures/video of a jump and put your time and money into it then you should be compensated for your effort. Everyone gives out a few freebies to friends now and then but at what point do you draw the line? I say thats up to the person doing the shooting."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

jdhill 0 #30 June 18, 2003 camera flyers take on additional expense and risk so that you and/or others can watch/debrief/judge skydives after the fact... and if you want a dub that extra time... if you don't feel they are worth it, choose not to use their services. If your organizer is not getting good video people, tell them that its not worth the price or that they need to find another cameraflyer... quade 4 #31 June 18, 2003 QuoteGenerally speaking I don't get to choose whether we have video or not, that is decided by the load organizer and there's no way of opting out. I think we're talking about two different things here. I certainly understand your point and if the L/O is inviting the camera flyer along then the implication is (or should be) that the L/O or Group or DZ should be picking up the slot plus whatever other compensation is appropriate. If the camera flyer approaches the group and they agree to let the camera flyer jump on spec then the camera flyer shouldn't expect to get his slot covered, but should expect to make some cash to recoup his costs if people want dubs and especially if they want prints! There's about a bajillion ways to go about working out a deal. The important thing is to know what the deal is.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Deuce 1 #32 June 18, 2003 QuoteQuoteHey, WingBoy, "Do as I say" and all that Next time they ask for a freebie point at that IMAX camera on top of your helmet and ask the if they think you got it out of a cracker jack box LD, the new IMAX setup is hung off a modified Belle-vue (Oh, man I am SO Just Kidding) Josh, yes, this is one of the most effectively hijacked threads I've seen recently. And yes, my favorite camera flying is just going out getting good pictures that people can buy off shutterfly. Or not.
slayer21016 2 #33 June 19, 2003 QuoteB: Assuming your profile is current and correct, it seems odd that someone with your consideralbe jump numbers would be jumping the least expensive container on the market without an AAD, and then would turn around and advise others to not be "CHEAP". Bite Me There IS a difference between my container and the quality of the glass on my cameras.(Duh) 1. A container holds my parachute and if it's a dolphin or a vector or a javelin it's purpose is to work when i want it to and my dolphins (more than 1) have always done there jobs. i have 1 malfunction out of 3300 jumps and i free-fly do Rw, CReW, AFF, Tandems Etc and my dolphins do there job. (and i deploy my chute not jesus) 2. being mean to me will only make me dislike you. 3. Ill be at the goodtime boogie very near Aerohio this weekend so why don't you come bitch at me personally. newshooter12 0 #35 June 19, 2003 Duece, I agree with you here I felt lost when I read the reply to my post... Is there something we can call threads that are more then just hijacked? Maybe "MIA" - Missing in Action? matt
davelepka 4 #36 June 19, 2003 Hey man, read the rest of the thread and you'll see the Quade pointed out that our exchange was not productive, to which I agreed and conceeded (publicly) to agree to disagree. I will not be at the Goodtime boogie, but I invite you to Aerohio at anytime, where I will be happy to shake your hand, and interested to see some higher quality wide angle lenses. nacmacfeegle 0 #37 June 19, 2003 oooh lookey a hijacked thread, something of a novelty in here. Anyways, its all interesting stuff, but to get back on track..... Willy Boeykins, ace Belgian camera jockey-see the front page, once showed me his PC7, or 10, can't recall exactly, which had a home made latex camera condom, and a battery powered heating element around the front lens and focus bezel of the cam. It makes sense to me if you can keep the lens warm-ish, then fogging may be less likely to occur (similar to the sock and hand warmer solutions discussed above). Willy's footage certainly looked okay compared to some of the other guys who were having hassles in the Asian humidity at the time. Maybe worth a thought if the footage is ultra critical?-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Neato solution! I see a production model in that if I had the skills. A 9-volt battery, a switch, and a thin conductive foil you could tape to the perimeter of the lens to heat it from the outside in. I think it would work dynamite on teeny single element lenses like my Diamonds. Between the wind velocity and the warmth it could probably really improve just drying off "industrial haze" moisture too. Or not. But really cool idea NacMac. skydiverjon 0 #39 July 9, 2003 Re you talking about .3x diamond lens? And you say it doesn't fog whatso-ever?
rredman 0 #40 July 9, 2003 My diamond .3 only fogs when it is really humid. but the center of the lense seems to stay clear. Gives you kind of a softening look to the shot.
pyke 0 #41 July 14, 2003 Not for nothing....since I don't fly camera, but am currently in the market.... I have seen one camera flyer take a REALLY small drill bit and and table drill and drill a hole in the connecting threads of the camera and wide angle lens....thus helping the interior lens equalize and avoid the need of wipes, or any other substances. my "unofficial" .02...
