Is there a governing body that hands out certificates saying your a pro camera flyer? If you fly a camera for the purpose of capturing that event on film and selling it then you should be compensated, be it a paid slot or slot plus whatever $ you agree on, thats a whole other issue. If you shoot for a 4 way team then it's a pretty safe bet that your a decent camera flyer producing a product. Why shouldn't you be compensated? The same can be said for the camera man who flies with a group of fun jumpers and takes pictures and offers to sell them prints. Bottom line, if your a camera man and you take pictures/video of a jump and put your time and money into it then you should be compensated for your effort. Everyone gives out a few freebies to friends now and then but at what point do you draw the line? I think we're talking about two different things here. I certainly understand your point and if the L/O is inviting the camera flyer along then the implication is (or should be) that the L/O or Group or DZ should be picking up the slot plus whatever other compensation is appropriate. If the camera flyer approaches the group and they agree to let the camera flyer jump on spec then the camera flyer shouldn't expect to get his slot covered, but should expect to make some cash to recoup his costs if people want dubs and especially if they want prints! There's about a bajillion ways to go about working out a deal. Willy Boeykins, ace Belgian camera jockey-see the front page, once showed me his PC7, or 10, can't recall exactly, which had a home made latex camera condom, and a battery powered heating element around the front lens and focus bezel of the cam. It makes sense to me if you can keep the lens warm-ish, then fogging may be less likely to occur (similar to the sock and hand warmer solutions discussed above). Willy's footage certainly looked okay compared to some of the other guys who were having hassles in the Asian humidity at the time. Neato solution! I see a production model in that if I had the skills. A 9-volt battery, a switch, and a thin conductive foil you could tape to the perimeter of the lens to heat it from the outside in. I think it would work dynamite on teeny single element lenses like my Diamonds. Between the wind velocity and the warmth it could probably really improve just drying off "industrial haze" moisture too. Or not. But really cool idea NacMac. I have seen one camera flyer take a REALLY small drill bit and and table drill and drill a hole in the connecting threads of the camera and wide angle lens....thus helping the interior lens equalize and avoid the need of wipes, or any other substances. my "unofficial" .02...
