canon optura

Has anyone been jumping a canon optura 200? If so can you tell me how it's working for you? I'm having problems with mine. Not sure if I got a bad camera or if it's something I'm doing wrong. Almost seems like tape flutter in free fall. I put it in a sealed box and that didn't help. What to do? Can anyone help. Has Anyone had this problem. Any advice would help except telling me to go out and buy a Sony. Thanks in advance.

You know, you really should just get.....Uh. Oh.

Tape every single crack with gaffer's tape? Use a chin cup so you're helmet doesn't vibrate?

I'm sorry yard, the only advice is the one you specifically asked not to get. Seriously, if it's still working well, maybe E-bay it and purchase a nice used Sony that will fit in your box.

I don't know why, but I've never seen anything (3 years in the sport, 500 jumps, 300+ camera) other than Sony last more than a few jumps before malfunctioning in some way.

Good luck!

OK, I've put about 100 paid video jumps on a Canon zr 45 and didn't have any problems. Thought maybe someone else had jumped one and had already worked this problem out. Guess I'll be buying some more slots. This seems like a good camera. I'll figure something out. Haven't been to DZ.com for awhile. I forgot it was all about Sony.

Well, if there seems to be a correlation between the wind noise and the problem then my guess is that it's air leaking in and disturbing the tape as it passed the record heads. Almost has to be.

There is no way that it's a simple overload of the audio signal causing the issue. The audio gets changed into data and the tape itself doesn't give a flying freek if it's 0 or 2^16-- it's just recording a number -- not like analog tape at all.

Anyway, just remember that at 120 mph, air is a pretty forceful thing to contend with and even a little tiny opening could have some pretty serious effects on a piece of really tiny acetate covered with rust waiting to be educated. ;)
