shutterfly

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering for those of you who use shutterfly, what size of file do you use to upload, do you color correct them before you do, do you use shutterfly to make prints for yourself, and whats the biggest you can make them given the file size you use without digital banding or grain? I have a 10D which I think a lot of people here use.

And for those who use the 10D, do you shoot in the RAW format and is it of higher quality than the largest normal file size?

Jpeg "fine" will yield a nominal file size of 4 meg which is just about right for uploading to the Shutterfly web site. They print up just beautifully. Shutterfly specifically does NOT want you to upload huge RAW or TIFF files.

You do not have to not do you really want to color correct your files unless they're really f'ed up.

After you've uploaded your files to Shutterfly, you can crop and make other small changes. One that you REALLY want to do is to turn off THEIR automatic color correction (unless your photo is again, really f'ed up).

Cool, I noticed though when my 10D is set at the highest res (large jpeg w/out compression), it only gives me a 2 meg file.

Has to do with how jpeg compression works -- depends on the subject matter. 4-way against a clear blue sky -- smaller. Complex scene with forest and grass -- larger.

Also, how do you set print prices higher than normal on shutterfly? And when people buy prints, how do they pay you?
