Rdutch 0 #1 July 31, 2003 I called the place to buy a Canon 10D and the salesman was telling me about a camera he owns that he thinks is much better. I did a lot of looking around online and found a lot of positive reviews of the Sigma SD9. Now making a hard decision even harder, its hard to fork over $2000 for a Camera and acessories. Has anyone had any experience with this camera, or seen one. I know Sigma isnt as good as Canon, but a Camera is usually only as good as the lens and I plan n using Sigma Lenses anyway. Also this 3 layer technology, gimmic, or good idea? Thanks. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

quade 4 #3 July 31, 2003 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos10d.asp And http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sigma/sigma_sd9.asp There seem to be a number of things that would scare the crap out of me (RAW files ONLY for instance), but mostly the fact that it's not really a proven skydiving digital camera. Oh, and ONLY their software can deal with their RAW files, so that's a real slowdown and bummer until they start making plug-ins for PhotoShop. Me? I'd put the money into a 10D and a Canon lens. The Sigma lenses are less expensive, but the SD9 is more expensive, so I think price-wise right now it's pretty much a wash.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AndyMan 7 #5 August 1, 2003 What's neat about the SD9 is that it's using the Foveon X3 chip, instead of a CMOS based one. The Foveon is a radical change in how digital cameras work, and is expected to bring the cost of cameras down considerably. I'm really excited about the X3 chips when used in video cameras, though. They promise to bring 3-chip color quality to a 1-chip camera. The SD-9 is 10 megapixel, and can be scored for $1,099 at retail stores. You can probably find it online for quite a bit less. The $1,099 is from www.ritzcamera.com - my local chain-store. There is some confusion over it being 3.4 megapixel or 10.3 - it's 10.3, and this is caused by the mechanics of the "X3" chip. The nutshell is that they essentially "stack" red, green, and blue sensors ontop of each other, so 3.4 million photodetectors will give 10.3 millinon pixels. I'll defer to quade on the "but it's not canon" and the "but it's untested" arguments. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
fasterfaller 0 #6 August 1, 2003 The print quality is not as good from this camera . They have a unique way of suckering you in with their claims of 10 megapixels . It is a good camera but don't let them fool you . Buy the 10d . I looked at some image files from this camera in a class I am in a few hours ago and was not impressed at all . Side by side they do not compare to the 10d .
