quade 4 #2 August 5, 2003 Quote Does anyone own the newton concentric ring sight from paragear . . . Newton concentric? A Newton ring sight is two pieces of polarizing material with a stressed piece of plastic between them. The stress of the plastic makes a rough "cross" shape. A concentric ring sight is a two pieces of polarizing material with a piece of calcite cyrstal between them. The circular polarity of the calcite crystal makes a somewhat bright area in the middle surrounded by wider concentric rings of darker areas. Hence the name. See http://brentfinley.com/store.htm for photos. Of the two, the concentric ring sight is quite a bit more accurate and it's also quite a bit more difficult to manufacuture which is why is cost so much more. Oh, one more thing . . . I have a Brent Finely Concentric Ring Sight and it is by far the highest quality sight available. Very accurate. Very clean.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Deuce 1 #3 August 5, 2003 I have both. I have the cross on the helmet I use for video only and tandems, and the concentric on the helmet I usually have my 10D/flash setup on. Because I'm so close on tandems, and I'm moving around a lot, the cross is OK. But for taking pictures, the concentric is FAR superior. My tongue switch went out this past weekend and I took some pictures with the cross-hair helmet. Framing is far superior with the concentric. Both my sights are Finley's. You can't go wrong.
