Shivon 0 #1 August 29, 2003 Has anyone tried mounting a bonehead TRV dBox on the top mount of an Optik? Any thoughts?
wlie 0 #2 August 29, 2003 I've seen a similar setup last week at Skydive OR. The d-box sure makes the setup look clean and as snag free as possible. The only concern of course is how to get the camera in and out with as little trouble. The setup I saw looked to me that d-box had a cover on the top for you to just drop the camera in.My other ride is the relative wind.
quade 4 #3 August 29, 2003 That, is, the entire point of putting a TRV camera into a dBox in the first place. The camera loads tape from the bottom, so a simple 1/4"20 screw could be used, but it would be a royal pain in the ass to change tape -- not to mention that alignment would change and require at least a slight re-sighting. The dBox allows you to simply drop the camera into the box, close the lid and off ya go.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Shivon 0 #4 August 31, 2003 Thanks for the comments. I just got back from the DZ where we talked cameras all weekend. I think that I should incorporate a stills camera into my setup. Hence I will get a BatRak instead of the Optik, and mount both the bonehead TRV box and a stills camera on top. Now all I have to do is work out what would be a good second hand stills camera... Cacophony 0 #5 September 1, 2003 I have an Optik with a d-box on top. I have/had a TRV 17. Its very clean and easy to take the camera on and off. You know they make a Z Bracket which is designed to fit between your camera lense and your eyes so that you can mount a still camera on the front of your Optik. I think its only $40 or so. Check ParaGear. If you mount your still in the front then your head will still be balanced. I don't have my helmet set up like that yet, but I plan on doing it in the near future. Its not much, but I posted a picture of me jumping the balloon at the freefall convention. You can get an idea as to what my helmet setup looks like from it. Its not a very close up picture, but its all I can find on short notice.
