Camera choice Advice

Recommended Posts

Anthony --

You've done the right thing by asking before going out and spending money on a camera and helmet. Take your time and do a little bit of research first before buying anything.

I think it's a huge waste of time and effort to simply throw a camera helmet together without thinking things through first.

If you do a little bit of research here, you'll find out that there are a couple of different opinions on what is "best" depending on exactly what you're shooting the video for. What is best for one person and purpose might not be best for you and what you want to do.

Above all, keep an open mind and take everything in. You never know where you're going to hear a little tip that might not be obvious, but very useful.

Since you're just starting to look into this, talk with some of your local camera flyers and take a look at the set ups they are using for various types of jumps. In very broad terms; RW jumps, freefly jumps, fun jumps and or "school" jumps.

Then take a look at each style of jumping and the results that people are actually getting. The way things are framed and the quality of the video in general.

After you've done this very small amount of research, you may have a little bit better idea of what type of camera flying you want to do.

Figuring out what type of camera flying you want to do now and in the future will help you figure out how you want to set up your helmet and what type of camera will be best for you.
