eppy 0 #1 September 25, 2003 Ok, searched the forum for this, but couldn't find anything. Looking for a free to cheap way to convert pal to ntsc. I've found software that can do it for ~$100. I've found hardware that can do it for more. I've found a service that can do it for about $25/hr. My dream, a quick little Linux program that can do the conversion both ways without losing any quality. I could justify spending a couple bucks (read <$30) on something that works well. It'd be great if my video editing software could do it. I'd like to create a PAL project, import the video, convert to NTSC and export to DV tape. I haven't had the chance to try this, will it work? I'm using Video Factory 2.0. Thanks, ep
indyz 1 #2 September 25, 2003 On Linux, you probably want to check out a piece of software called transcode. There might be something in the examples section of the website that covers NTSC/PAL conversion already. If not, I bet they'd tell you if you asked nicely on the mailing list. Please note that I am assuming that you already have a way to get raw DV onto your computer and back out to you camera while running Linux. If you don't, poke around here. Doing anything with video and/or firewire under Linux is still fairly tricky. Proceed with reckless abandon.
eppy 0 #3 September 26, 2003 Awesome! Thanks, I will definitely start messing around with these. Especially dvbackup. I've been looking for an inexpensive backup system, too :) ep
Spike 0 #4 September 26, 2003 Hi Brian, I use this, works great and compared to hardware and agency solutions, its real cheap. If you see Rob Stevenson at Crosskeys, say hi from Colin. Cheers
