VoodooFreeFly 0 #1 November 12, 2003 Has anyone seen a Rawa set up with a Cam Eye? I am thinking that holes would have to be drilled into the side of the D-Box.... I'm getting tired of looking in the little mirror to verify my camera is on. Thanks.
LouDiamond 1 #2 November 12, 2003 QuoteHas anyone seen a Rawa set up with a Cam Eye? Yes, mine has a CAM eye hook up to it. Two ways you can go about it. The way I did it was I shaved all the black plastic off of the jack(LANC plug) portion so the D box would close properly. It is still a tight fit but it works. The second way would be to use a dremel tool and cut a small portion of the D box out to accomodate the LANC plug. I ran the remaining wire out the back of the D box throught the switch hole, taped the exposed wire to the box and ran the LED indicator up through the back, over the crown and down in front of my left eye. The record button rests on the foam portion on the back of my neck just to the right of the D box. I used a small piece of velcro (hook portion) to keep the LED positioned in front of my eye. I'm sure it could be done other ways but the way I mentioned requires no or minimal drilling, etc."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

riro 0 #5 November 14, 2003 Another easy way to get the cable out of the D-box is to drill a hole in the back (towards the helmet) and then put the CamEye-cable there before mounting the box on to the helmet. -- riro - http://www.ronnkvist.nu/gallery/

VoodooFreeFly 0 #7 November 14, 2003 Thanks for the pics. Is the camera in the photos a PC-101? I dont have my camera in front of me, but my PC-101 has all of the A/V ports on the opposite side of the LCD screen, which would be up against the helmet towards the inside when I wear it. I might have to drill through from the inside of the helmet. I contacted Claudio at Rawa, and he is gonna try to dig something up. Thanks again Lou. LouDiamond 1 #8 November 14, 2003 QuoteIs the camera in the photos a PC-101? It's a Sony PC-100. I'm almost positive you would have to drill in order to get access and install the LANC plug if your's is on the side closest to the helmet. He makes the boxes so well that there really is no "extra" room once the camera is in the box. I would make sure he knows to either engineer you a way to mount your Cam eye from inside the helmet and/or allow enough room in the box for the LANC plug to be inserted. That way you don't have to shave down the plug or do any creative drilling/cutting."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
riro 0 #9 November 17, 2003 Ah... might be harder then :-) I have a RAWA-box on my gath. -- riro - http://www.ronnkvist.nu/gallery/

Quote I have the PC-101 I had to use a drimmel tool to cut part of my d box away at the back side so that the plug would fit around to the LANC port. But in retrospect I should have drill a hole in the d-box where the it fits up against the helmet. The reason I say this is that doing it the way I did causes the came eye cable to have a slight bend in it at the plug. After a while this caused my plug to go bad as the constant beding of the wire broke the wires from the plug itself. I had to solder a new plug on. Not a big deal but it can be prevented by some careful planning. Three people I know have broken the LANC port in their camera with applications that dont give enough clearance to plug it in without a bend. I helped a friend switch over to using a skylight, with a quick disconnect, since all we use the cameye for is record indication, not camera control. You can use it to auto focus with a slight bite then take a picture with a full bite. The mounting plate holds the camera securely yet is easy to take off or put on.I've easily saved a couple of hundred dollars by getting this helmet with all the standard parts."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
