Wing attachment point

Just recieved my new Merlin camerasuit.
The suit is delivered with the lower attachments (both the sandwich velcro and the clip at the end) loose, for myself to do the correct positioning so it won't come in conflict with the harness.
Does anybody have any suggestions on positioning? Should I measure with the rig on standing up (so it will fit i freefall), or should I consider the harness position under canopy?
Any other aspects to take into consideration?

Just got my merlin suit a few weeks ago in the same situation.

I was told by merlin suits, to put on my rig and tighten up all the straps.

Then fit the velcro sandwich and reinforcing first.

After that, put on the fastex snaps and swoop cords.

It will be several inches different than without a rig :-)

now fits great.

I got my rigger to help me stitch it all .

I bought a new Merlin suit a few weeks ago. I struggled with the instructions just as you are now...

In the end, I paid someone to do it for me. I happened to be at a big DZ (perris), and found the local jump-suit guru, and had her do it for me.

I assume you mean Shirley Pelland. She's amazing and has worked on my jumpsuits for years. Very high quality work and will work with you for a custom fit.

If you jump in SoCal, she's the one you want working on your jumpsuit. Based at Perris. Ask about her at Manifest or Square One.

Er, maybe. In my post, I said a few weeks ago. I don't know what I was thinking. It was almost a year ago, when I was down at Christmas.

I don't remember if it was Shirley or not, I went to her house and she lived near Elsinore.

Anyways, I do recomend having somebody who knows what they're doing, do this.

DP - the sandwhich comes separately on merlin suits so that you can place it where you need it, rigs being different sizes and shapes, etc.

Shirley Pelland sewed larger wings on a jumpsuit that was originally built for me by another company.

I'd like to see it. Sounds hokey, how does one reinforce it? The camera suits I've had experience with have the sandwich, and fastex buckle installed and reinforced. On two suits it showed up fitting perfect, and on another the companie requested a measurement and it showed up right.

When you get a new merlin suit, they ship you the suit plus:

two sets of buckles,
two long pieces of webbing to make your swoop cords with.
two short pieces of webbing to attach the female buckle.
two large pieces of loop velcro, which form the sandwich
two pieces of reinforcement fabric that'll get sewn to the inside of the leg.

They do not provide instructions for assembling the wing. They tried talking me through on the phone, I finally gave up and asked someone to do it for me.

I don't think there's anything hokey about it... its just one piece of the "do it yourself" puzzle... Kinda like figuring out how to side-mount your new PC330. The sidemounts don't come pre-attached.

Hmmm, if you want to deal with it. I agree there is a lot of DIYS in camera flying, but I don't have to make my own camera.

Does Merlin send the RW suits with grippers to be installed?

I think it's a good idea to have the ability to attach the wings yourself, for perfect fit.
The problem with Merlin Suits is that they don't give you any pointers whatsoever as to get the job done right. Maybe it all is just a walk in the park, but for an average guy (i.e. one who doesn't spend any time in front of a sewing machine), this actually might go wrong...
So when Merlin suits #1: don't send along any instructions, and#2: do not respond to any enquiry(mail etc.) on the topic, the idea of a not-finished-suit kind'a falls through...
