ring sites for rawa

Recommended Posts

I haven't put one on mine for the simple fact that I don't think there is a way to get a low profile one on the helmet due to the shape and the fact that the forehaed area is fabric. I continue to use the paper reinforcer on the goggles method with good results. If someone has one that is low profile I'd like to see it too since I don't think it can be accomplished.

Yeah, that set up is way to long for my liking. Hard to tell from the pic but the mount needs to be secured with plastic screws so that if it does get snagged the mount rips off the helmet instead of taking your head for a ride.

LOL, My site is attached using plastic screws. I did screw them in from the top but there is no chance of it snagging on the screws. Also the site is as close to my eye as it can be. I have had a riser hit the ring site before and it came right out of the helmet.

Sorry for the poor picture but I was in a hurry when I took it.

Lou, how do you use the paper reinforcers when you cant look through the d-box to check the site?

I had someone look through the viewfinder while the camera was in the D box. I looked at a fixed object approx 10-15 feet away and the camera person centered it in the viewfinder of the camera. I then looked at the fixed object and placed the reinforcer on my goggles so that it was the center of the reinforcer. I then centered the fixed object in the reinforcer and had the camera guy verify that where I was looking was indeed in the center of the view finder. I use a wide enough angle lens that being a little bit off doesn't throw my shot off.

Was the d-box cover open?

Yeah, the camera guy had to hold the lid open while looking through the viewfinder as I knelt on the floor and looked at the fixed object.

Well i am not Lou, but i know an alternative way of adjusting paper reinforcers. Take a laserpointer and tape it to your helmet, adjust it so the light of the laserpointer is in the center of the picture. Put your helmet on and adjust the paper reinforcer.
I don't use a paper reinforcer because i found it blocks my vision too much when i am under canopy. I now use transparent red tape in the shape of a rectangel so i know quite good whats in the picture.
If it does not cost anything you are the product.

I've done the same thing using a Sharpie - you get a really good idea of what your camera is seeing, and it's still transparent enough to see through.
it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
