DanglesOZQld 0 #5 December 18, 2003 With Tandems I have a definite 1 2 3 philosophy with the video. I try to get the pre freefall footage into around four mins with the briefing, aircraft ride and scenery. This makes song number 1) fairly easy as you want something to start off slow to get the mood of the "beginning." The ol number 2's are the mongrels as they are the hardest for the freefall part of the video. You need something that takes little time to get pacy from the beginning and keeps the pace throughout the freefall at least. I use songs like "Slave to the grind - Skidrow" "You could be Mine" "FunkyTown - (rather old but good for the freefall!!)" "Don't change - INXS" "Dogs are talking - Angel city (The Angels)" and a lot of others. The let down or under canopy stuff can be the same as song 1) much less pacy but still with rythm like "Bitter sweet symphony" "Times like these" "unwell" "Bad Craziness - D.A.D" "catch - Kosheen" The variety is endless! There is a guy at my DZ that does great video editing, even puts stuff on DVDs, but his music selection is HORRIBLE, He likes polka and sad opera music. He hated the techno that I put on my video. I'll go to billboard and see what are good songs then get them from Napster.(I don't want to get sued). Okenfold has some pretty good stuff if you're into the techno. Sum 41 has some good punk stuff, then Offspring just came out with a new album.______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. jimoke 0 #8 December 18, 2003 if you are the video editor, you need to like the music yourself to really get into your work. that said, if your making videos for your tandem customers, they may not like the music you put on their video, thus they do not truly love their video. even if it was shot with perfect lighting and content. I hated the music that was put on my first video. I shoot between 300-600 tandem videos a year and have been struggling with how my customers get what they like..... "hey tom what type of music do you want on your video" " what do you have?" "I have Kazza, does that narrow it down?" " how about Tom Petty freefallin or van Halen jump!" "Sorry, I don't have that" I try to get people into a category of music first, rock, techno, classic rock, hip hop, whatever. I have a library of music with the songs I like from each category, and start there. there are so many choices. a 55 year old tandem student might not want what their 20yo son would want. if you are making freefly videos for your friends, use the music that will keep their attention. I usually try to keep em short and sweet. skydivers tend to get distracted quickly. I could make a long list of music, but, you might not like what I like. Now for Windows too. ltdiver Lori, I know that it is no problem for Mac users to use the protected (DRM) AAC files the iTunes store uses in iMovie but I don't think they would be able to import them into most Windows video editing software. They could burn the song to a cd in AIFF format and then rip it into mp3 but that's a bit of a hassle. skychic68 0 #15 December 31, 2003 What I have decided to do for the upcoming season is to type out all the music I provide for the videos on back of my dub sheet. This is a nice way to allow the consumer to choose something from the list. I also encourage their own picks that perhaps I can download. I do, however like to leave it to the customer whenever possible. After all, they paid a lot of money for that video. Once I have all my songs typed, I can PM you a copy for some ideas if you like. AggieDave 6 #16 December 31, 2003 Did you see the attatchement I put up earlier in this post? We hand a copy of that to the TM students with a little form. They put the number and name of the song on the form, then on the vidiot can look on the same list (in the notebook with the CDs) and find the number, on the right hand side there is 2 numbers, one is the CD number the other is the track number. This thing works like a champ and it gives students a wide range of music to choose from. The only downside is that I put Freefalling, Higher and Flyaway on that list...that was a BIG mistake.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
