renedq 0 #1 December 19, 2003 Hi, I'm new to skydiving, and to cameras, but eventually I want to be good enough to mount a camera on my helmet and take pretty pictures. I was at best buy yesterday looking at digital cameras, and was wondering what I need to look for in a camera that can be mounted. Any suggestions? I'm looking to spend around $300. Thanks, ReneI like Improv and Skydiving.
PhreeZone 20 #2 December 19, 2003 Save the money on a digital camera if you are wanting it just for jumping untill you've got about 200 more jumps. 200 is usually the min that we will recommend before straping a camera on your head. And save the money since by the time it takes you to get 200 jumps the price of cameras will have fallen and newer, better camera's will be out. Hot camera right now is the Digital Rebel at $999 for the kit.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

I thought that was the hot-shit camera right now.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

The 10D and Digital Rebel have a similar feature set (details here) and a $600 price difference. There have been lots of discussions on here about the specifics. JayhawkJumper 0 #5 December 19, 2003 I don't have any experience with the digital rebel, but I've had my 10D for a while and I've shot a few thousand images. I don't have one bad thing to say about the camera. I've even taken it climbing in Scotland just recently and it was exposed to the worst conditions possible for a camera, but its never missed a shot. It will soon be exposed to freefall when I get home. I'd highly recomend this camera to anyone in the market.
Deuce 1 #6 December 19, 2003 I have a 10D too, and it just has more convenient features that make it easier to use, and it's significantly faster. My video boss just got the Rebel with the kit lens. It works fine and he got more freefall pictures than he usually takes with film. With both cameras, the on-camera flash at 1/200 produces really nice colors on the passenger, and sometimes shadow is a problem without it. Great news, though. After lording my digital images over the video concession owner at my DZ, we are now offering digital stills on CD. We already offered DVD, which sells well, but the digital stills are irresistable to the customers and they haven't left without getting both photos and video yet. We connect the camera to the TV, show the exit shot, and they are reaching for their wallet. And it's more cost effective than film, and the customer is e-mailing them as soon as they get home. Very cool.
