linestretch 0 #1 December 27, 2003 I was curious of what some of you thought about the handy cam. I've only been doing them for a little over 3 months, and like some of it, and don't care for the rest. Not to mention, it can be pretty friggin sketchy. For those of you that don't know what handy cam is, it's where the small mini-DV camera is in a glove on your left hand, and it's used for filming tandems. Attatched are a few stills. One is where the drogue stayed with us, and of course, I filmed it. You can get some really awesome ugly face shots too.my pics & stuff!

RevJim 0 #3 December 27, 2003 QuoteLove your picture at linestretch! I just mailed a SONY TRV19-sized hand-mount to Joe Webber. I almost hate to ask, as I'm limited on $$$ anyway, but I have been reading about these from you for some time now..... Do you have a picture of someone wearing one of these? I'm thinking, as a few others have, about getting one for some self portrait and flock shots. I figure with a wide enough lens, anything is possible. I know you can't answer openly here with the advertising stuff, but could you PM me with some details? Like cost, turn around time, and anything you would need, such as measurements and the fact that with a straight wrist and arm I would like the cam pointing at my hip. (This would bring the cam about into a headshot line in flight). Thanks! It's your life, live it! b1jercat 0 #4 December 27, 2003 Hi JJ, I was hangn at the DZ last week and got to watch some stuff someone shot . General idea is hand cam picks up where vid flyer leaves off. You get that fuck that was cool reaction from the passenger and the canopy flight. It could be part of the total package. from the land of rain blue skies jerry
Squeak 17 #5 December 27, 2003 they have been using handi cam gloves here in Oz for some time. Most of the ppl that have never seen a skydive vid seem to be OK with the end result. PPL that have had outside vid, tend to like them less. I've seen footage from one DZ that incorpaorates both handicam and outside and when edited together the result is OUTSTANDINGBUT it take some setting up and a bit of time to edit. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
tonyhays 86 #6 December 28, 2003 The hand cam is great at getting their reaction immediately after the canopy opens, but IMHO the overall quality is less than outside video. You get to see shots of their face, that's pretty much it. Outside video offers so much more possibilities, such as flips leaving the airplane, 360's, etc. Of course, I am biased since I shoot tandem vids “That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”

Since they already use two outside videographers on most jumps, they plan to dub in the new footage (from hand-mounted camera). I suppose if you are jumping with rock stars, you can devote the extra time to dubbing.
