ffejdraga 0 #1 January 24, 2004 I would like to hook up a 35mm film camera, and my Nikon Digital up on my helmet. What are the limitations to wiring the cameras together so I can fire them with the same tongue switch? Any worries about frying? thanks, jeff D-16906
Deuce 1 #2 January 24, 2004 McGowan does it with two finger switches in his left hand on a custom thing he designed himself. I suppose you could switch the tongue switch into a splitter. What's your goal?
LouDiamond 1 #3 January 24, 2004 Mike McGowan flys one, if not the biggest helmet on the planet with two digital cameras and flashes. He uses hand releases, one in each hand for each camera, to avoid the movement associated with bite/blow switches. If you're serious about it then I would probably take a look at setting your set up up similar to his. Edited to add: DAMN, I knew I should of hit post sooner LOL"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
ffejdraga 0 #4 January 24, 2004 hmmm I hate hand switches though. If Mike uses one hand switch to fire two cameras, wouldnt the same theory apply to a mouth switch? I could wire to cameras to one switch, whether it was hand or mouth shouldnt matter then... jeff D-16906
XDV 0 #5 January 24, 2004 It`s really easy to make one byte or tongue switch fire 2 cameras, but you will have to cut some wire, soldering, and shrink tube. I had plan to try this next saison.... for now it`s -30.......
LouDiamond 1 #6 January 24, 2004 QuoteIf Mike uses one hand switch to fire two cameras, Negative, he uses 2, one for each camera held in his left hand."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
ffejdraga 0 #7 January 24, 2004 Quote Negative, he uses 2, one for each camera held in his left hand. O i c. So my question then becomes, would it work as I have drawn it in this attached diagram? thanks, jeff D-16906
LouDiamond 1 #8 January 24, 2004 I have never done it but your drawing seems to make sense to me as I have rigged explosives up in a similar fashion before and it worked I seem to remember Mike using two individual switches and I'm sure it was for a reason. Let me get in contact with him and I will verify the "hows" and "whys" of it. Gimme a few days as he is a busy man."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
ffejdraga 0 #9 January 24, 2004 Alright, that would be appreciated. thanks a bunch. no experience with explosives! jeff D-16906
Deuce 1 #10 January 24, 2004 Lou, he uses two cause he has two different lenses on his Nikons and it gives his flashes time to recharge before he hits them again. He alternates between the two quite a bit. The switches are depressed by his index and middle fingers. They're on a piece of tubing like the kind on the top of a hand-mounted altimeter. You know, and easy way to do it with off the shelf parts would be to plug a 2.5mm splitter into the end of the conceptus switch, (like you use to share headphones on a single-jack walkman) and then just attach a 2.5mm jack extension on the end of both the cables. Everything you need is hanging on the wall at Radio Shack. -That would work on a Rebel or DigiRebel. Some of the other cameras would require switch soldering. LouDiamond 1 #11 January 24, 2004 Quotehe has two different lenses on his Nikons and it gives his flashes time to recharge before he hits them again Bingo! Thats what I wanted to confirm since I wasn't 100% on it. I also thought he was shooting another brand camera( fuji?) and Nikon or at least he was on this JUMP"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Deuce 1 #12 January 24, 2004 Yeah, this year it was two Nikons. McNeck. Here's a picture of the setup and the switches look like he fires them with his thumb. The two red buttons in the left hand. I keep this and several similar photos in my McGowan shrine. It's just past my Quade reflection pond.

Deuce 1 #16 January 25, 2004 Dude, the new FTP arrived today. Got the quantum battery pack, and the two 550's communicate wirelessly just fine. The gear is all configured and we will start on the wannabe Gasson top right after I finish the DZ.Eloy video next week. First go is aluminum to figure the specs, then we go exotic. There is NOTHING better than having a class A machinist with all the CAD\CAM laser guided 5 axis machine tools on the market be interested in making the coolest camera helmet ever. Think of the cage of a hockey helmet, but chrome-plated and with all kinds of camera stuff in it. Wicked, wicked cool.
skysurfcam 0 #17 January 25, 2004 Actually, don't go there without checking first with a manufacturer or repairer. I often jump with 2 stills, a 28mm in landscape and a 19mm in portrait. I spoke to the guy who services my stuff when I was planning it, and he said the cameras would "feed back" into each other and cause lotsa grief. I now have one tongue switched and one hand switched. I don't like the h/s much either, but if wishes were ponies i'd get a relay built to work the cameras. Too lazy. Deuce 1 #19 January 25, 2004 No, my approach is to get the flashes to recycle faster and stay with one still camera. I'm sticking with the conceptus tongue switch. With the Quantum Turbo 2X2 and two 550's I can get high speed sych flash with light levels back up near where on 550 will shoot at 1/200th, and they pop at 9fps. With that battery, the biggest concern is not burning up the flash heads.
videointhesky 0 #20 January 25, 2004 I have a helmet set up with a Minolta 35mm & Pentax 645 with the shutter releases for both in my left hand . I use my thumb for the 645 * middle finger for the 35mm. I would have a wide angle lens on the 35mm & used the 645 for the farther away shoots. I have both shutter release cables with a 3 conductor male & female 1/4 plug for quick disconnect
