How to remove hand strap without cutting?

Recommended Posts

It can be done. I'm not sure I'd recommend it unless your good at handling small components. I did it to my PC100. Open the cassete cover and look inside and you'll see some small screws in the door. Undo those and you can take the strap off.

Be careful not to lose any parts though.

Just got my PC 105 and went for my super heavyrduty micro carbon fiber plastic scissors and cut the thing.

Just try to cut only one layer of the strap so if you want you can sew it back.

That might help.

Thanks dsbbreck, broke out my tiny screws driver and it was off in 5 min.:)

Glad I could be of help. Just as a side note, I just bought a new TRV22 and decided not to take the chance and just cut off the handle. The chances of me ever selling it to someone else who will need the handle is slim to none.

With the cassette door open and the battery removed, remove 5 tiny screws holding the dark blue plastic cassette cover to the outer metal frame. Then find and remove 2 tiny screws on the underside of the open metal cassette plate. Slide the plastic cassette cover up about 1/8th inch and it will separate from the metal frame. Take care not to damage the fragile, thin flat ribbon electronic connector tape. Locate and remove 1 tiny screw close to the inner grip strap. Lift the grip strap and slide the silver locking pin out of the grip strap. The grip strap is now free of the cassette cover. Replace and carefully tighten all 8 tiny screws.;);)

will the same thing work for a pc105?

Yeah same thing, just screw the plastic cover off on the side that flips open when you put in a tape.

You better have good eyesight and a good set of screwdrivers. It's a pretty damn fiddly job. You can also remove the pins where the straps go so it doens't stick out as far and you can mount the camera closer to your helmet.

And, make sure you know how to put it toghether again. Take pictures along the way if you have to; don't come crying to me if you mess up. :P

The hacksaw was taken to my 105. No evidece of a strap...or an attachment point. Not great for resale value, but closer to my head so that's ok! :P:)
