Flying_Wizard 0 #1 January 29, 2004 Hi all. New jumper (180 jumps) (not jumping camera till 200+) Am wanting to get into camera jumping (as I do a lot of editing and stuff) and have bought a camera helmet to be used with my Sony PC8. It's a Bonehead helmet, and I was wondering about cutaway systems.... since it's a fixed chin and you put the helmet on by inserting your head in from the back rather than pulling it straight down. Anyone got good any ideas or suggestions ? It's got a visual timeout fitted (goes off in your ear and makes a red light flash on the ringsight), so even if I do get distracted by filming (which appears to happen more often than most people think..... judging from some posts I have read) Also have a Pro Track which I will fit in addition to the visual timeout... Saftey in mind with regards to altitude awareness I was actually more concerned with the deployment sequence.... I will only be using this camera helmet for Video for the moment (as I don't have a stills yet) If you look at the picture you can see the problem I am thinking of. The camera is mounted on the top of the helmet... I am planning to have it mounted inside a metal case rather than just use a camera condom for it. I hear a bit about riser strikes or lines catching. I hear people dipping their heads at deployment time so it doesn't strike.... I hear many things.... What are peoples views on this setup and their views on cutaway systems for this type of setup.I am a wizard.....
vdschoor 0 #2 January 29, 2004 Bonehead has the cutaway systems for the Flat Top ready to go. Either send it back to them, or order it and install it yourself. Regarding protecting your camera, there might be a D-Box from bonehead available for it (I'm sure there is) but also a lot of people jump it like that... just the camera. Thanks, Iwan

Flying_Wizard 0 #5 January 29, 2004 You know the removable brackets (you can kinda see em from the first picture) that are used for mounting the camcorder or stills camera..... You know of any sites that sell em... they seem to be quite hard to find.. I'm trying to use it with the PC8.. but the bolt hole isn't placed correctly (4mm too far back) Bolt hole not screw hole. Are there different types.. or are you supposed to just drill your own holes ?I am a wizard.....
Deuce 1 #6 January 29, 2004 Yeah, drill the holes yourself. Treat the exposed carbon fiber with clear acrylic nail polish when you are done, use a vacuum cleaner when your working, and keep your electronic stuff in another room when you're doing it. Gimp. I'm sure there's very high demand for a custom painted helmet with Da Gimp on the side and a head harness and ball gag painted on it. Maybe not in skydiving, but surely for filming porn... freeflir29 0 #9 January 30, 2004 Take the word of a guy that destroyed his $1000 camera about a year ago. Get a Dbox......the $170 spent will pay for itself on the FIRST collision in free fall or on exit. I finally will have another camera in a few days. In fact....the D Box should be here before the camera!
SniperCJ 0 #10 January 30, 2004 Quotedamn....i wish i got the Pro instead of the narrow. Why? Ive been thinking seriously about the narrow. What's the drawback that makes you want the Pro? JC
quade 4 #11 January 30, 2004 The Pro has more platform area on top making it more versatile in the long run when you want to add more cameras and strobes. It's a little bit more cost up front, but a much better deal in the long run.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
lewmonst 0 #12 January 30, 2004 The Pro is also heavier than the Narrow. despite my size, I have a girly neck, so every ounce counts. The Narrow is perfect for me now. Eventually I'll upgrade to the Pro when i can get a new camera and flashes (and build my neck muscles?)... peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
vdschoor 0 #13 January 30, 2004 Lew, Start working out your neck Lay flat on the floor, and push your upper body up with your head. For extra workout, roll your head while you're pushed up. That's what my dad gave me as a workout after he saw my setup He said they do something similar as a workout for rugby players, but I wouldn't know. Hmm I've been carrying a big head on top of my neck for a long time too, so I might have an advantage on you there I'll see you in Perris sometime soon, I want to come down there one of these weekends.
