dsbbreck 0 #1 February 9, 2004 Who out there is currently offering DVDs of tandems or even just thinking about it and how much are you charging for it? Are you charging extra if they want a DVD in addition to the VHS? Or are you giving them a choice of the two for the same price?David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question." aerialcameraman 0 #2 February 9, 2004 I offer DVD for the tandems or AFF i shoot but i also charge 10.00 dollars more for the dvd then if they just get the vhs which comes with the package if they buy the video. I was supprised to learn that they will pay the extra 10.00 for the DVD. This covers the cost of the DVD+R that are expensive. I also let them know that it will take a few more minutes to due then the VHS.
Cajones 0 #3 February 9, 2004 We offer a DVD option. It is $24 more than VHS and it is about 50% of the sales. I was surprised to see customers are willing to pay the $24 extra for the higher quality and durability. Some customers don't even have VHS players. - Cajones The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
sducoach 0 #4 February 9, 2004 After the fact. No equipment at the DZ for DVD. I mail the completed project the following week. $25.00 however, you must confirm the format their DVD player uses and that It's not an older model.James 4:
XDV 0 #5 February 9, 2004 for use there is no extra charge, but if they want it in vhs and dvd it's 10$ extra. DVD is about the same price as VHS when you buy those in large quantity also we haven't got lots of issue with npon playing DVD will say about less then 1%, and we using -R
skychic68 0 #6 February 9, 2004 Good post. We are in the process of offering DVD's as well. I think the better quality is worth it to most customers. Tell me, if your authoring software creates menues and such, are you offering that as well?? What is the base cost of a video for your customers, if I might ask?Que sera sera
Cajones 0 #7 February 9, 2004 We do linear edits. The DVD recorder functions just like a VCR. The DVD has a leader pre-recorded on it. Just drop the leader in, hit record and do the edit. If you goof-up the edit, just erase the bad edit and hit record to start your edit again. The "menu" shows the two titles (the leader is just called "Skydive Elsinore" and the title of the linear skydive edit is the date and time of the edit) and the empty space on the DVD. We do far too much volume to consider non-linear edits. - Cajones The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
clint 1 #8 February 9, 2004 Last summer CSC charged $79VHS and $89DVD and $99 for both VHS & DVD. I will be charging the same! $24 extra that's alot of money! But if your getting it, then good on you. It is Cali, also. I'm confused about the Non-Linear and Linear. Can you explain? I hear about it but I never remember these things. Someone said that it takes longer for the DVD, why? The formatting should only take 3 mins max, right? I'm only going by what we did at CSC. IT only took 30sec to a min to format after you hit the stop button. "I mail the completed project the following week. $25.00" Are you doing yours on the computer? I'm assuming you are. Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a DVD recorder for $450ish and give the student the video right there. I wouldn't want to get my video a week later, but I dont' have any patience either! There is no difference making a DVD video than a VHS video. You hit the record button on the DVD recorder just like the VHS recorder. Where is the best place to buy the DVD-R or DVD +R or DVD +RW. AND really what is the best DVD disc to buy?Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012
aerialcameraman 0 #9 February 10, 2004 I use sonic vegas 4.0 and have to transfer the completed file after rendering it to MYDVD to record.I use the dvd burner on my computer that is set up for nothing but video editing. I only tell them it may take a little longer because we like to give the complete project the same day they are there. And it normaly works out fine except for the extreme busy days and the lows staff numbers that day.
flyingfrog 0 #10 February 11, 2004 I offer DVD as well, but based on the fact that VHS tapes much more expensive then DVD I do not charge more

spottydog 0 #17 February 15, 2004 The DZ I jump/work at offers DVD as the supreme option. It ain't cheap either @ $70 above the cost of a normal VHS video. DVD also makes more work for the dubber. cheers, The Dog.Kiss my dogs arse.
mdwhalen 0 #18 February 16, 2004 I just bought a burner and have yet to offer DVDs to students. I burned some for myself and it appears that my Sony, mid range, fairly new, DVD player will only play R- It concerns me that I could have formatting problems with students but from what I've read on here that doesn't seem to be real problem for most people."I have magic buttons ;)." skymama
flyingfrog 0 #19 February 16, 2004 usually I burn -R dvd's, and never got a complain so far. and btw... -r is anyhow cheaper than +R most of the dvd players on the market should now be able to play -r formated dvd's lucky me... worst case my burner support +R as well
clint 1 #20 February 16, 2004 then you must have the wrong set up if it's more work for the dubber. It shouldn't take any more time except for the formatting which is only 3 min max. $70, WOW someone is making alot of money. People are making their first skydive and then you want them to buy video at $70 and then add $70 on it for a DVD. WOW, I won't say what .... SOmeone asked about the .50 for T20. I was mistaken. It was .62 with out the sleeve. Here is what I'm going to buy soon. http://order.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/wg-order?unique=d8033&catalog=tapestock&et=402d873b&basket=b%3D5Cd0e188d8013e4b402d7aa5b75cc97a9a34264b38bd87b926b9b2cc55b6f3572%26l%3Dc0ij02b8dj/o%26s%3DxFsbtEzBiGtzz8216wLtUtbWc_QClint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. mdwhalen 0 #21 February 16, 2004 QuoteIt shouldn't take any more time except for the formatting which is only 3 min max. I have a new TDK burner and I use Pinnacle. It takes about 40 minutes to format for a DVD versus about 5-10 minutes for a VHS format. I was just told by panasonic it is going to take me 10 min to finalize with the TDK-R. I am waiting to hear if I can use another disc so it won't take so long. Anyone have ideas why it takes him 40min? I would like to know also. and can you help with my question, so it doesn't take me 10min to finalize.Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B.
