Camcorder Vs Camera w/ vid option?

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's my question. I am looking into getting a camera and wanted to see what everyone thought about digital cameras that have the video/movie option? They are VERY small, but how does the picture quality compare? Has anybody tried this method? Also what is a good quality but inexpensive camcorder for filming? Many thanks!

If you are looking for a camera to take on jumps, I'd wait more till you are ready to jump a camera to buy one. The prices are falling all the time and quality is going up. Its generally reccommeded to have at least 200 jumps to jump video.

For the other question of using a still camera with video functionality they just are not practial for jumping. The memory buffer is too small, the frame rate is too slow and they quality is horrible. Plus its in MPG format and you are stuck with the video on the memory card and unable to export it with out a computer.
Its like a camera phone, it takes pictures but there is no reason to use it if a real camera is only $100 more.

Like Pree said,
I'm more for the camcorder
these technologies are meant tu be used as their primary role.
Other roles are just "options which can sometimes help"
BTW my new camera phone has a coffee machine included, bbut the quality is not that good :P

Almost everyone thats shooting video in those movies is using a PC110 or PC9 in a Bonehead Dbox mounted to what ever helmet that fits them the best.

Honestly you need to decide on how mount you want (Top or Side) and what level of quality (1 CCD, 3 CCD) and the options you need like memory stick or LANC. Lots of options and lots of reviews here in the fourms. Quade has an EXCELLENT article on futurecam.com talking about wanting to fly camera.
