Tape usage

Recommended Posts

I am assuming you are referring to mini- DV tapes. I run a video concession and we fill up the tapes once and then store them for a period just in case there is a reason to go back and get the footage. After that I completely erase the tape and reuse it. Erasing the tape is important or sometimes they will bleed through the old material.

Yes you're right MiniDV, sorry. Do you only use it twice ?? Is it possible to loose quality if I use the tape about 10 times ??

Thanks

You know, it is important to save tapes at least for the season. I have found that several times I have needed to go back and redo a tape for someone because they ruined or taped over the first tape they bought.

Ilike saving stuff anyway. You never know what kind of footage will be useful for the future or look good on the "best of tape" at year's end.

True but I don't want to keep 100 tandem jump on tape.

they say a tape can be re-used 10+ times. I find that re-using a sony tape in a sony Camera will produce digi dropout, which increases the more times the tape is re-used. This happens LESS when the tape is striped, or recorded over with just black.
If you've ever tried to capture footage for NLE that has digital dropout on it, you'll see why it's easier to just throw a new $3.50 MiniDV tape in and archive the used one.
