Nikon D70 remote

Recommended Posts

Dear gurus,

The new Nikon D70 seems to be a really nice SLR for skydiving. Faster and better at buffering than the Canon 300D

The question is how to solve the remote trigger problem. There is no standard wire at the D70, just an IR reciever on the camera.
Is there an IR to wire solution out there?

I would appreciate some tips and tricks!

Blues Skies,
/David

Yeap...that sucks...but it must be possible to open the ir control and make a "homemade" solution. Anyone done that on any other ir release?

Btw. David....have u found any really nice price for that camera?

Anyone that can suggest a wide angel lense for this cam?
:)

I'd love a solution for this too.... I'm trying to decide right now wether to get a D100 (2nd hand body with remote included) or a new D70. For ground stuff the D70 is faster, but I'd love to be able to jump it too [:/]

I really like what I've seen of the D100 with the Nikon D 16 mm fisheye, but any of the fixed nikon D wide angle lenses will do, depending on your needs...
I really don't like the Canon 300D kit zoomlens I have, so I'll pass on the D70 kit zoomlens and get a 16 or 18 mm when I get the money.

I'll give the russian 16 mm lens a try I think; bought it for fun, for my Canon, but changing it to a Nikon lens is a matter of ordering another ring. Cheap.

I heard from a friend that http://www.harbortronics.com/ are working on a solution.

I'm a Swede. The dollar is weak so I guess I can get a nice price if I bye the camera overseas. Do you have a nice online dealer to recommend?

I got this e-mail today!!
--
I received our D70 yesterday, and have already dissasembled, engineered a remote connector, and reassembled it!

It is a camera body modification, to add a new connector between the DC
power and video jacks, under the cover on the left side of the camera. The
modification does not involve any of the camera optics, nor will this
modification interfere with any camera feature. The connector will be a
2.5mm jack, identical to what is used on the Canon Rebel cameras, so it will be compatible with existing bite and tongue switches.

The price is going to be $195 per camera to modify. I suspect this will void
the camera's warrenty, but maybe not...

Be careful up there!

That is a piece of mixed news, good and bad.
I think that Nikon will not look favorably on that at all, and the warranty will be void...IMHO only...
plus $195 is really steep,

but the good news is that it can be taken up in freefall.
Puts me one step closer to buying it.
