I see the PC101's fairly popular, and pros and cons? anyone know which sony models can accept a video in feed? Also, wheres a good cheap place to buy camcorders in the states? when i google, it tries to be helpful and gives me mainly UK sites.. thanking you Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
mr2mk1g 10 #2 March 11, 2004 make sure you're using google.com not google.co.uk and try froogle.com - its google for cheapos and there's no UK version.

mr2mk1g 10 #4 March 11, 2004 the 101 and the 105 are identical in all but shape and: 1) the 105 has a flash - 101 doesnt. 2) the 105 has the np-fm30 battery whereas the 101 has the slightly more powerful np-fm50. 3) the 101 has a standard 4-pole 1.5mm video composite port and standard s-video port whereas the 105 has a new sony specific port which does both but isn’t compatible with anything else without a converter (all new sonys will have this now). 4) the 105 has a backlight button on the side. mr2mk1g 10 #6 March 11, 2004 Both do DV in. I have the 101. I got it cos it was much cheeper than the 105 when I bought. There is really nothing in them assuming the price is good. With the 105, the flash comes in handy for ground stills, the battery will still not run out unless your litterally working all day, even then spares are like £20 and the difference between the two is a matter of minutes. The different cable may be a pain now but in a couple of years it will be the standard and not having it will be the pain.
nacmacfeegle 0 #7 March 11, 2004 Zee dude, make sure you get prices, and your hands on...a PAL camera. US origin NTSC cams are about much use as a bacon butty at a barmitzvah over here..... Anyways to the chase, it has a/v and DV in/out so its good to harvest footage from your chums. Zeemax 0 #8 March 11, 2004 when you say DV in, excuse my blondeness (and i should know this having worked in broadcast my entire life, spending time dealing with all manner of formats) thats just the digital output of another camera isn't it? what i'm thinking is (i know you can buy a kit, but its pricey) plugging a smaller camera in and using it as a remote recorder for some jumps, so i dont have the camera on my helmet. I'm guessing thats not possible though. anyone know anything about this company? http://www.digitalliquidators.com/detail.asp?pid=sndcrpc105&l=FrooglePhoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
Zeemax 0 #9 March 11, 2004 thats cool, i know all about PAL and NTSC. I've found the company i mentioned 2 posts up does the 101e (the PAL version) for $669 which seems pretty reasonable. Also just noticed it does have an A/V input on mini jack. Next question... I wouldn't want to with a camera on my head yet, the extra weight and all the other problems is not something i need at this low level, however... as i saw a kit someone made, which involved wearing the actual camera unit in a belt pack (easy enough to make a keep out of the way) then running a simple small cable up to a mini camera (like the little spy ones) which i coule mount on my helemt. No weight invovled and with a little connector in place if i needed to ditch it incase of emergency i just yank it off and jobs a goodun. I've seen the quality of some of these micro cameras and it will actually work well. i wil have about 100 jumps by the time i look into this and am usually good and stable in the air. Whats anyones thought on doing somthing like this?Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
nacmacfeegle 0 #10 March 11, 2004 DV in is exactly that, but most small bullet or lipstick cams are composite or even better SVHS feeds, if it says 'A/V in' in the camcorder specs you can use these remote cams in conjunction with your camcorder. DV in also allows you to stream video to it from say a VAIO or MAC or similarly firewire enabled pooter after editing or rendering .edit to remove babbling about NTSC /PAL and to add... UK regs will not allow you to fly a bullet cam before 200 jumps and a C license, best to check with your CCI before doing anything whatsoever even vaguely against the regs..-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. damonsteele 0 #11 March 11, 2004 DO NOT BUY FROM DIGITALLIQUIDATORS!!!!!! Do some research on resellerratings.com, you will find out about how they do business. Especially since you are an international buyer!!!! Do some research before you go for the "cheapest" price. It could cost you a lot more in the long run. wakethmoon 0 #14 March 12, 2004 I agree. DO NOT BUY from digitalliqudaors. I couldn't have said it better myself. They are crooks! Dishonest, unethical, horrible people to do business with. You will see a very low price and think, ah, I am smart enough not to get screwed by these guys. Guess again. They will screw you NO matter what. They are very skilled at ripping customers off. wakethmoon 0 #15 March 12, 2004 DO NOT BUY from Digitalliquidators. Oh man, these guys are incredibly dishonest. They will rip you off, no matter how careful you are. Their MO is to offer prices soo low you can't resit buying from them, but when you do, you will regret it. They charged my credit card for items I never ordered or recieved. And then they told me I ordered the "missing" equpiment and I was just trying to screw them. I've turned all of it over to my credit card company and the the district attorney in NY. Please, pass the word, DON"T buy from those guys!
damion75 0 #16 March 15, 2004 I have just been looking through all this since I am buying a camera myself and I found out the following: 1. Difference between PC101 and PC105 seems to be just that flash - and a TINY difference in size (105 smaller) 2. PC101 does not seem to be in production anymore. 3. US websites are MUCH cheaper, but I am very wary of the PAL/NTSC issue, not to mention warranties etc. 4. The PC103 is identical to the PC105 but without the DV in which makes it about 100 quid cheaper for tax reasons. 5. Pixmania.com sucks - they quote one price on kelkoo.com (price checking website) and another one on their own, and their 'price alert, we are the cheapest' is a crock. 6. Best (good) price I got was from a company called A J Electronics on the Edgware Rd (website is below) for 555 quid. Seemed like the best I could get... www.ajelectronics.com although worth noting I could not get through online and had to phone them up - they were very helpful.
