Flat Top Pro, Homemade box with PC110. Help, Opinions on this! ***4 NEW PICTURES***

Recommended Posts

Here goes, I built a homemade box for my PC110 to go on top of my Flat Top Pro. The thing is made out of ABS Plastic and is darn tough. The only problem is that it sticks up on top of the helmet 5 1/4 inches but the PC110 itself is 4.3/4" so that only gives me a little room for padding top and bottom. I could maybe shave off another 1/4" but that would be it.

I am not really worried about the width even though I could have shaved it down another 1/2 inch. It seems like this may be too high on my head and since I will be jumping primarily from a king air, will this give me problems on exit and possible tail strikes? [:/] Just need a little help here in figuring out what is reasonable and what is not. Dont worry about the screws not being all the way in cause I used Gaffers Tape to temporarily attach the box to the FTP and I have not finished everything. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

not to sure about your possible problems with the king air....but i do know from looking at the picture that if you ever want to add a still on there....that box takes up ALOT of room so you may not be able to fit it. Keeping it all on top is a good idea...centers the weight.

Here is my 2 cents. I jump a FTP with a TRV22 on top in a Bonrhead D box and my Digital rebel on the forehead. I don't know how much it will effect you but for Birdman it is noticeable and it's one of the issues I address in the paper I am writing for Birdman specific camera flyers . The addition of the box will catch wind and increase resistance when you turn your head left/right of center. Basically it's a rudder on the top of your head. The bigger the box the more your going to feel the effects when you turn your head. Again, I don't notice this as much when I just do tandem video but something that big is going to catch some wind regardless. Food for thought. I would try to make the box as form fitting as possible with the padding installed already and as slim as possible.
