Squeak 17 #1 April 4, 2004 OK now I've pplayed with photography for around 20 years and have a reasonable idea of what goes into making a lens for SLR cameras, and I can see the justification in the pricing. But I cannot for the life of me figure out why for a Video camera, a single ground lens with an aluminium ring cost $200.00 AUD. Moreover, I've been told that these lenses limit the ammount of zoom you can use on your camera is this true? So to my question, are there any wide angle lenses available that don't cost in the hundreds, that will be suitable to use on my PC105 ?You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! If you're talking about Red eye and Blue eye lenses, YES...the single-element construction of all low profile lenses just confuses the autofocus system. But anyway...if you're using a 0.3 or 0.42x Wide Angle, why are you worried about the zoom? Just my two cents... Cheers, mate! Hey...ho...let's go! koz2000 1 #3 April 4, 2004 Sony makes a .6 lens that can be bought for $54-65 USD. Kenko makes a .42 lens for about the same. It's not the thin lens but they work well D______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. AndyMan 7 #4 April 4, 2004 Absolutely. I use a Kenko .5 I picked up on bhphotovideo.com for under $50. I would never spend more then $50 on a lens for a consumer grade camcorder. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
WayCool 0 #5 April 5, 2004 QuoteBut I cannot for the life of me figure out why for a Video camera, a single ground lens with an aluminium ring cost $200.00 AUD. The simple answer is market forces. The market is very small for a lens that is designed to be wide and small, with limited zoom ability inherent. tooling and manufacturing cost for producing these in relatively low numbers is considerable. It is not appropriate to compare these lenses that are produced mainly for the tiny skydiving market to consumer products produced in Asia or China for the millions. I hope to increase the market for these and other new products planned and then have the ability to upscale production and therefore lower costs. QuoteMoreover, I've been told that these lenses limit the amount of zoom you can use on your camera is this true? This is true for the single element design, most skydivers are willing to sacrifice this for small size and weight. There are many wide angle conversion lenses available you will find hundreds of options with a well defined google search we also stock some cheaper options they are on our site.
