Squeak 17 #1 April 13, 2004 Has anyone used a Harma (sp) wide angle lens (0.5)? I can get one really cheaply ($40.00)and since I'm just starting out I dont want to spend $200 on a Red Eye or equivilant. Any reports????You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
Cookie 0 #2 April 13, 2004 Squeak, I have used a Hama lense before, did approx 500-1000 jumps with one. The only downfall was on those cloudy days with a few inversion layers about it used to get the odd misty dot in the center of the lense between the glass that could only be removed with a hair dryer. Living in Queensland it happened rarely and I could nearly pick the days when it was going to happen. There are still some good priced quality lenses about. The Seimax or Kenko 0.42 springs to mind and wont cost you an arm and a leg. Can I say that you have just got yourself a nice shiney new video camera, don't limit it with a really cheap quality lense. My old man said save your money and buy the best tools possible. Within reason of course. Email me some frame grab's when you get to RUN IT!!! Cookie
WayCool 0 #3 April 13, 2004 I would agree with Cookie as I did a lot of jumps with a Hama 0.5 also. The image quality is quite good, the fog factor is a small problem if you jump in a tropical climate. The other thing I found with the Hama is that It was a little restrictng when filming customers inside the plane because it wasn't quite wide enough. You had to aim really well for good framing which is difficult sometimes in cramped conditions. A wider lens lets you get the grabs a little easier and the newer cameras a less wide as well which magnifies the problem. skydog 2 #4 April 13, 2004 Have used one for the past 800 jumps and never had a problem of any sort. If you can get one cheap then go for it. BrynJourney not destination.....
Squeak 17 #5 April 14, 2004 Well it don't matter abut the Hama now, because the outside diametre is too big for the Cookie Box lens openingYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
