cutaway handle on the FF2?

Recommended Posts

Well, I am about to throw down the cash for the 2k Composites FF2 helmet (they are the only ones cool enough to make a custom helmet for my giant noggin) and I am trying to decide on the last option...cutaway handle pre-installed, or no cutaway handle...

From the pic on their website (http://www.2kcomposites.com/html/cutaway.html) the handle seems to jut a bit forward. To anyone who has the cutaway on their FF2 - Do you think that it sticks out far enough that it could be accidentally pulled by others on some rougher dives? Has anyone experienced any cutaways of it due to snagging of the handle? How securely is the handle attached to the chincup? (looks like velcro in the picture perhaps) Would you recommend the cutaway handle, regardless of how much extra stuff may or may not be strapped to the helmet? (i'll just be using a pc330 in the side for the time being)

Thanks for any opinions,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I have the the cutaway system on my FF2 and have had no problems what so ever with it.

The handle is attached with velcro, but is very secure.

I have a wide angle lenses that protrudes from the box on my FF2 and I see this as a possible snag point therefore it suits me to have the extra security of the cutaway. I'm also planning on a ringsight in the future which is another possible snag point.

I have seen a FF2 with a slimline wide angle lenses that did not protrude (no snag points) and didn't have the cutaway system.

I will leave the more experienced camera fliers to give opinions on the pros and cons (if any) of having a cutaway.
