Sony Mini-DV tape differences?

Anyone know the difference between these two tapes? They both appear to be Sony 60-min Premium tapes, but I don't see any differences besides packaging. My guess is Sony changed the packaging recently, so both are still on the market. Anyone know what's up?

dunno about those tapes in particular but apparently all tapes are made by the same people.. just different packaging... think they were either made by TDK or Panasonic......

about 2 years ago, sony started marketing these tapes in blue packaging, it's exacly the same tape as the red package, only with a "new look"

you'll also find tapes in orange packaging which are generally a little more expensive. These are also absolutly identical in every way with a different design packaging. Oddly they're often found being sold by the same shop at different prices - never did work that one out.

If Im correct (which I think I am, but I might not be .....) The different color packaging is for different production years. I think the blue is the newer production. Check on Sonys web site about this. I think it is there somwhere.

Yeah, the blue packaging is what they have listed on Sony's site so I'll take it that they are the newer ones.

BTW, a bunch of places have these blue Sony tapes on sale for something like $3.59/ea until tomorrow. Search around www.froogle.com for the deals.

The packaging colors here in Germany have changed to orange

At least the price has not gone up. I paid just under €3 a tape.

It makes a difference. See if you're in spain at the running of the bulls you would not want to risk the red packaging. Go for the blue.....

anyone have an opinion on the panasonic, maxell, canon, JVC or other brands of tapes besides sony? they are usually cheaper.anyone have experience with the quality?

I've used one Maxell tape and it was junk.

For the price, and the Quality I'll take the Sony. After all I use a Sony camera.
