ffejdraga 0 #1 May 3, 2004 I noticed what appears to be a random piece of junk that shows up as a black unfocused speck on my footage. Upon further inspection, i found that there are no visible specks or dust on the wide angle lens, the lens of the camera, and the tape heads are clean. I am guessing that there is some debris or something on the CCD, and i am wondering what I can do to clean this off. I have sprayed most of the camera with compressed air, around the lens and inside the tape carriage, but to no avail. I cannot tell if it is CCD burnout, but it seems like a randomly shaped object, not pixels or whatever. Any suggestions that dont cost a ton of money would be appreciated. thanks, jeff D-16906
masher 1 #2 May 3, 2004 I'm pretty sure that quade posted a story about him cleaning the CCD on one of his cameras. Try a search for that...-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
quade 4 #3 May 3, 2004 Yeah, but in that case it was my digital still camera, so it was -far- more easy to get to the actual imager. Dust and crap -can- get into video cameras as well.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
masher 1 #4 May 3, 2004 oh. I wasn't sure if it was your stills or video camera...-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
ffejdraga 0 #5 May 3, 2004 yep i read that one before I posted, knowing that a ccd on a video camera is pretty much inaccessible. i really hope i dont have to send it to Sony. jeff D-16906
lister55 0 #6 May 3, 2004 I had this same problem. Turned out that I has some lint on the inside of my wide angle lense. Try taking it apart and see if there is something inside it.
psw097 0 #7 May 3, 2004 The lens assembly should come out as a unit. You cannot really take it apart much but once its out some canned air might work any crap loose. I've had some dust on the inside lens element that this has worked for. It doesn't help if you have hot pixel locations - that just a fried CCD. The attached lens assembly diagram from the PC100 and gives the gist of it.
