BigM 2 #1 June 7, 2004 OK kids, I am finally adding a still camera to my helmet. I am using a stroboframe for the primary mounting mechanism for my still camera (an EOS Rebel). The question is, do I need anything additional? If so, what? I have seen bungee type straps over some cameras (on some that was the ONLY means of attachment). If they are the answer, where do I get them, or is that a home made type set up too? Many thanks in advance. quade 4 #3 June 7, 2004 The easiest way to get your bungie is to ask your rigger. He should have some in stock at a fairly reasonable price. Maybe a buck. That said, I have mixed feelings about additional "safety" bungies. I know that folks want to try to retain their expensive gear if for some reason it gets knocked around, but a 1/4"-20 bolt is pretty strong. My feeling is that if for some reason I took a shot to the head, maybe a mid-air collision with another jumper, and my camera wanted to depart my helmet, I'd probably be better off letting it depart. I think the last thing I'd want is to have 3 pounds of stuff flopping around my head connected by a bungie cord. Then again, that's just me.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
flyingarab 0 #4 June 7, 2004 I have to agree with that as well. A SF mount is excellent for your camera. I jump the same still and use a SF to mount. I mounted the two side screws and the main center screw. If something should hit them and rip the camera off, I would rather that they it slam my head and neck into some awkward position that I could not get out of. As an example, feel free to view my video when I had such a hard opening, it actually broke the rivets on my helmet and I lost all my equipment from 4K feet. Had I been wearing the chin strap and chin cup at the same time (like the mfr recommends..why I have no idea) I amsure a broken neck would have come out of it. You can see the video at http://www.flyingarab.com under the videos / fun jumps section. It was painful.Sincerely, FlyingArab www.flyingarab.com
