freefallcrab 0 #1 June 16, 2004 I got my new 300D all rigged up (thanks Moose) and flew it at the weekend but got no results - the camera was showing an Err99 code and no images were recorded despite having proved the bite switch on the ground (albeit with the camera not mounted on the bracket). I guess I need to reset to auto shut down timer - what time do you other Rebel users use? I really dont want to be groping around for the on/off switch once my helmet is on my head. freefalle 0 #2 June 16, 2004 The error 99 code is a generic code used when something abnormal happens which is not covered in the manual. Cannons recommended response to the error 99 code is to shut the camera off and remove the battery; reinstall the battery and see if the error clears. SOME people have stated this error may be resulting from a lens that has pissed the camera off. Try removing and replacing the battery and see if you have better luck. dragon2 2 #3 June 16, 2004 We had troubles with error99 too, this thread explains them and the solution (at least for these 2 camera's): http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=946746#946746 ciel bleu, Saskia
psw097 0 #4 June 16, 2004 Most of the Err99 I have heard about were from older Sigma lenses. Sigma can rechip some of them. I've never had an error of any sort in 5000 frames but I don't have any older lenses. I leave the auto-off at 8 minutes, the default is way to short. freefallcrab 0 #5 June 16, 2004 Thanks for those quick replies guys - the thread which discussed the Err 99 issue was interesting. 8 mins on the auto shutdown sounds good - I will try it next weekend. Still a bit concerned about vibration - mine is front mounted on an L bracket so I might need to review my set up. Use your wings Johnny....

The default auto time out is just fine at the 2 minutes. The camera will shut off, but then will wake up the second you activate your remote trigger release (i.e. I use the tongue switch). I 'shoot' one or two frames in the plane just before exit to activate the camera (turn it back on) and the camera is ready to play again. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
freefallcrab 0 #7 June 20, 2004 I think I cured the Err 99 problem on my 300D although I didnt get to test fly it this weekend. When I first tried it I had the Sigma wide angle lens from my old non-gigital Canon - yesterday I fitted the zoom lens that came with the camera and no Err99 at all. the Bite switch works and there is no shut down. This is pointing towards a camera body/Sigma lens compatabiluty issue ( there was something about sigma lenses in a reply to my first post). I am not too sure I want to jump a long lens with a front mount on my FlatTop - extra weight, easier to knock on exit etc etc. Can anyone offer any thoughts on 300D/Sigma lens compatabilty? dragon2 2 #8 June 20, 2004 There is always the potential for trouble when you're using a third-party lens. These may work fine for the camera's on the market at the time the lens is made, but no guarantees after that. Usually a manufacturer will make sure it's own lenses and bodies are backwards/forwards compatible, but third parties cannot, for the most part. There are known problems with several Sigma lenses on newer Canon bodies, and also I've read about problem lenses from other brands (Tamron etc). I had a website for that, but can't find it right now I googled this up tho: http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/QnAdetail.asp?threadID=9473 Mentions a Sigma upgrade program... If you buy a new Sigma lens now, chances are it'll work fine..... For now ciel bleu, Saskia
