If you have something like Premiere or Ulead's media studio, you can (copyright permitting) snag the whole file then find the frame you want and export. NB I've never tried this from a DVD, so I might be talking out of a hole in my head ('not for the first time' I hear you mutter)

In windoze, if you are playing the DVD on your pooter's monitor, you can screen grab by pressing CTRL and ALT and Print Screen (print screen is normally on the right of the F keys), this will dump the screen image of the active window into the clipboard, which can then be pasted into just about any image editor or viewer, then crop out any unwanted stuff, and save the file as a JPEG for posting.

Some free software out there if you want to Google for 'Screen Grab Free Download', if you like software or a little more flexibility for this sort of thing.

Get a copy of Power DVD. Pressing C during playback will capture the current frame to a jpeg file

Print Screen will usually not work with played back video of any kind because it is using overlays that are not captureable.
Most Software DVD players do have a screen capture option though, just press F1 for help and search your programs' help file.
PowerDVD indeed is the best program i have found so far.

thanks everyone for the help, the trial of powerdvd dosn't include that feature. so i guess i'll buy it tonight

Dammit, your right, I just tried this on my XP machine at work and all I get is a black screen in the grabbed media player window, even though an image is pasted into the Photo software we have here (MS Photo Editor...crappy).
It works fine on my machine at home, but it has specific dedicated video hardware cards fitted (DC30+ and a DV300) and it works fine. Must be something to do with my home hardware.

hmmm doesnt seem to work on my version of PowerDVD

Works on Power DVD 4.0 Just press C to capture.

By default, it will save the images as bitmaps (BMP files as opposed to jpegs which I mentioned erroneously in a previous post). Power DVD doesn't say anthing when you press C but it places the BMP files in your MY DOCUMENTS/MY PICTURES directory by default. I pressed the C key about 10 times thinking that nothing happened. I later found the files and realized that it had worked. Try it.
